Diesel – Rollaway Semi Trucks
17/09/2019 Duration: 21minDiesel - Rollaway Semi Trucks. Diesel is back and he wants to talk about setting your parking brakes. One of the most regretful things is to watch your truck roll away. This year many truck drivers will forget to set their brakes because they are in a hurry. They will pull ups to a rest area or a truck stop and jump out without pulling out those brakes. Most of the time a driver is preocupied with other things that their safety is not considered. many drivers will lose their job because of their negligence. A simple rollaway can result in a DOT recordable accident. There is a story out of Ohio where a driver forgot to set his parking brakes in a rest area. He returned to his rig to find it about 30 yards forward from where he left it. The truck had come to rest on top of a metal garbage can. Upon inspection he realized the garbage can had cut the fuel line. Of course the truck needed to be towed which meant it became a DOT recordable accident. https://cdllife.com/2019/driver-gets-great-workout-while-chas

Trucking & the bloodsucking lawyers
09/09/2019 Duration: 30minTrucking & The Bloodsucking LawyersTrucking & The Bloodsucking lawyers. An everyday trucker is not thinking of the lawyers that are just waiting for the next big lawsuit in trucking. Everyday day someone walks into the office of a good attorney inquiring about how much money they can get from an accident. Many of these accidents are not even the truckers fault but that does not matter when it comes to the big bad trucking companies. When an accident goes to trial it is very easy to see why the jury would side with the people in the smaller vehicles. Its only natural that a jury made up of human beings would have compassion on this that hav suffered. Naturally the occupants of the smaller vehicle will most likely be the party that suffered the most even though they might be at fault. This is very common and we must consider this every time we get behind the wheel of our big rig. Cover your butts If you are a professional truck driver then protect yourself as best as you can. One way is to have a witness

Truckers 3rd Land Violations
02/09/2019 Duration: 26minTruckers 3rd Land ViolationsTruck drivers that run in the 3rd lane are at rick of getting a ticket and a fine. In many states a semi truck is restricted to using the right two lanes only. But there area also many instances where a trucker may use the 3rd lane with out braking the law. Knowing when you can use the 3rd lane by educating yourself will save you money and time. For example most steep mountain climbs will almost all be restricted. The reason behind this of course is due to the fact the most semi trucks can not keep up with the posted speed. In order to keep traffic flowing properly each state will restrict semi trucks from the 3rd lane in order to allow the rest of the traffic flowing. Driving in cities will also restrict truckers from running in the 3rd lane due to the flow of traffic. Most of these area will have posted signs warning the truck driver of which lanes he may travel in so there is normally no excuse to be in the 3rd lane. https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/thr

Diesel – Your Trailer is coming around Trucker
27/08/2019 Duration: 18minDiesel Your Trailer is Coming AroundDiesel is back and he has another story of being on the road. Listen in as the new star of TalkCDL tells a tale of a crazy day on black ice out side of Chicago. Listen in and hear how Diesel himself tells a story like no other can. Running in black ice is one of the most dangerous forms of weather one can operate in. When driving on ice you have absolutely zero traction and are better off not being on the road. According to Safe Winter Roads, over 1,300 people are killed and 116,800 are injured in car accidents on snowy, slushy or icy roads. That's not all: every year, nearly 900 people are killed and nearly 76,000 people are hurt in crashes during snowfall or sleet. What is Black Ice? Black ice is a thin coat of glazed ice on a surface. And it isn't black – it's actually clear, but it takes on a dark colouring from the pavement below it. Because it is so thin, it is often invisible to the human eye. Black ice can form in many ways but the most common way is from melt

Trucking Company Sues Trucking Company
09/08/2019 Duration: 30minTrucking Company Sues Trucking CompanyTrucking Company Sues Trucking Company. CRST recently sued Swift Transportation and won. A court agree with CRST the Iowa based trucking company that Swift Transportation was poaching drivers. CRST like other big carriers will sign a contact with a potential truck driver agreeing to train them in exchange for the training for a Class A Commercial Drivers License. This agreement is normally minded by a 10 month agreement. Once the driver completes the agreement CRST is suppose to release the driver from any obligation allowing the driver to seek employment where he/she desires. Weather it is with another carrier or if they wish to stay with CRST, they are free to now choose. Swift was caught actively recruiting these drivers which were currently under the CRST contract. https://cdllife.com/2019/crst-sued-swift-over-driver-poaching-and-won-15-5-million/https://www.ccjdigital.com/swift-ordered-to-pay-crst-15-million-for-recruiting-drivers-under-contract/http://talkcdl.co

How Cell Phone Tickets Effect Truckers
02/08/2019 Duration: 31minCell Phone Tickets in TruckingHow Cell Phone Tickets Effect Truckers. Truck drivers have a new disease that has sprung up in the last ten years. Its called a "Cell Phone Ticket". This is a very damaging disease, unfortunately this disease is not passed on by others. Instead just like other diseases that come from bad living and habits such as diabetes, high blood pressure and other diseases that can be caused by lifestyle so can a cell phone ticket disease. If we choose to pick up a hand held device knowing it can kill our CDL, then we have made a bad choice. The effects that can come from this ticket are detrimental. One ticket like this and you eliminate 99% of any trucking company that will hire you. I Thats right, most carriers have insurance policies that will simply not allow them to hire a driver with a cell phone ticket. We recently spoke with a safety director about this issue and he told TalkCDL "if a driver chooses to use a cell phone in a commercial vehicle knowing the impact it can have on a truc

Trucker Sleeper Birth Pay
30/07/2019 Duration: 34minTrucker Sleeper PayTrucker Sleeper Birth Pay is a big issue in trucking. Should a trucker be paid while he is in the sleeper and away from home? We sat down and talked about this subject in the studio. If a truck driver is away from his family, does he have the right to be paid for every hour is is gone? Recently a federal judge in Arkansas declared that truckers should be paid but the department of labor had a different opinion. When you really think about this subject you have to ask yourself this one question. Who is responsible for the truck? The answer of course is the driver. So, if a driver is responsible for that truck at all times then would it not make sense to pay the driver for the time he is responsible for it? Here is a scenario. A trucker is sleeping in the sleeper birth and about 3am another truck backs into his rig causing damage. Now according to the department of labor the trucker should not be paid for his time in the sleeper but then who should be responsible for calling in the accident a

A Few Trucking Companies To Avoid
27/07/2019 Duration: 32minA Few Trucking Companies to Avoid A Few Trucking Companies To Avoid. If you are in the market for a trucking job you might consider a few things. What kind of a carrier are you looking for. Many drivers think that the small carriers are the best because you are not a number but what are the negatives to working for the smaller outfits? Not all big carriers are bad just like not all small carriers are bad. We sat down and talked about what kind of small carriers you should avoid. Carriers for example that buy old equipment. This should tell you right away how much money the carrier has or does not have. Why is this important? Well if freight gets slow money can get tight. If a carrier does not have a decent size bank roll, your pay could be in jeopardy. When a carrier does not invest in their business then it is only a matter of time till an emergency comes up and the carrier may not be able to foot the bill. If a carrier pays you late one time, you might consider leaving that week. When a carrier ever gets be

Sleep Apnea Does It Even Matter
24/07/2019 Duration: 33minSleep Apnea Sleep Apnea does it even matter? We have heard so much about sleep apnea over the years but does it really even matter? For many year trucking companies have been telling truckers, of course through their doctors they have sleep apnea. They are also told that they are at a higher risk to be involved in a traffic accident. But where is the proof? All these years of hearing about it but where are the numbers? Where are the statistics showing that all the sleep apnea people are causing wrecks? You see we hear theories but we have yet to be given solid proof the the so called 'Sleep disease" called "sleep apnea" is making drivers wipe out. In fact if you think about it you would think that one has enough common sense to just pull over if they are drowsy. Think about that for a second. A driver gets real tired for whatever reason, should he have enough common sense to pull in to a rest stop and sleep? Sleep apnea is suppose to not allow you to get a good nights rest, causing you to be more tired on the

The FMCSA suggests that you write your drive time, Sleeper and hours on duty down. They say that a driver must get their ELD fixed as soon as they can. If a driver goes past 8 days without fixing their logging system the driver will be endanger of being shut down. Troy's Suggestion What to do when ELD's Fail. On this weeks show Troy suggested before you attempt to drive make sure you notify your company. Ask them to send you a message giving permission to continue driving. If your carrier is not willing to put that in writing you might think twice about moving that rig.
