When ELD's FailWhat to do when ELD's fail. Electronic Logs can and will fail for some. What should you do if this happens? Many things can go wrong with electronics. Number one you can lose power or maybe your ELD is on your phone. If it is on your phone many things can happen there too. First and foremost if you don't pay the phone bill you will lose your ability to use your ELD. Bottom line is ELDs can fail. So what can you do legally. The FMCSA suggests that you write your drive time, Sleeper and hours on duty down. They say that a driver must get their ELD fixed as soon as they can. If a driver goes past 8 days without fixing their logging system the driver will be endanger of being shut down. Troy's Suggestion What to do when ELD's Fail. On this weeks show Troy suggested before you attempt to drive make sure you notify your company. Ask them to send you a message giving permission to continue driving. If your carrier is not willing to put that in writing you might think twice about moving that rig.
