United Airlines has built their marketing on "Fly the Friendly Skies" yet in reality they're the most hated airlines in the US.  From bloodied doctor David Dao to mom Shirley Yamauchi they continually break their brand promise through a total lack of customer service. Great businesses are built when we align our culture, operations, customer experiences and marketing with our brand promise.  United Airlines promises one thing and yet consistently delivers another.   Southwest Airlines is an amazing example of brand alignment and we love them for doing so.  People love working there, they don't charge for luggage or change fees, they surprise and delight their customers and they market with LUV at the center of it all.  They know who they are and they've built everything around this identity. Whether we're a freelance artist or leading a company the lessons are the same.  We have to know who we are and what we promise....and then we work tirelessly to make sure that everything we do is in alignment with this

Ready to have that dream job?  There are two key steps to growing into your dream job.  You have to start with the job you're wanting to get (or you're wanting to build).  The main benefit is that it lets you know what people are looking for in the role you want to fill.  It also gives you the language you need to speak fluently.  The second step is to measure yourself up against this job description.  The key to this is to start with your strengths, look for the places that come naturally to you.  Then move onto the gaps, the places where you're not as strong. You are definitely your best asset but the reality is that none of us are complete.  We each have unique personalities and giftings but none of us are great at everything.  Regardless of whether we're self-employed or working within an existing company or organization we're guaranteed to be more successful if we build around who we are.  There are three ways to build around who we are: 1. Build around your personality.  We use the Meyers Briggs test to dive into who we are.  Not only is the helpful to better understand what you do naturally it also helps to understand the roles that will drain you.  It's great to have someone close to you fill in these gaps with their personality. 2. Build around your strengths.  The Strength Finders Assessment is a great way to assess your top 5 strengths.  If you're like me when you see your results you'll have an "a-ha" moment and some things that you thought were quirky turn out to be your greatest strengths.  With 34 strengths out there it's vital to know your own and th

Ashley Jones has turned tragedy into hope with her non-profit Love Not Lost.  After suffering the loss of her child Ashley turned to photography to help start the next chapter of her life.  She soon found herself being invited to take portraits of people with terminal illnesses.  After facing such a devastating loss herself she realized the importance of preserving and capturing the memory of loved ones through photography.  Out of this desire to help others she formed the non-profit Love not Lost. Her story is one of deep loss, grief and hope as she now uses her past to help others. Regardless of your business most of us concentrate our time and efforts on a few key things....creating the product, marketing, sales, distribution, social media.....but we often forget one key thing....ourself.  If we want to move beyond a transaction to an experience the key is a relationship....and at the heart of that relationship is you.
