The Big Shut Down (Semi Trucks)
03/07/2022 Duration: 46minThe Big Shut Down (Semi Trucks). In 1973 a truck driver named named J.W. Edwards shut his semi truck down on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. His handle on the C.B. Radio was "River Rat". This would be the first time that the American Trucker got a national voice. Frustrated with an oil embargo Edwards had enough. With diesel jacked high in price and sanctions set on fuel supplies, he was sick of barley making it from fuel stop to fuel stop. Running out of fuel, he decided to shut down right there and hop on his C.B. Radio. With in a day, 10 states were seeing protests and gridlock on the interstates and major highways. Along with the embargo, there was a national push to limit long haul truck drivers to 55mph. This would mean more frustrations and less pay for the truckers. For the most part the protests were deemed peaceful. All but one state, Ohio, was relatively calm. Set state of Ohio however, called for the national guard to remove truckers from picketing and they used tear gas to do it. Never b

Something’s Happening In the Trucking Industry
27/06/2022 Duration: 39minSomething's Happening In the Trucking Industry. The perfect storm is happening right now in trucking. Freight rates are down, fuel prices are up not to mention the supply shortages. On top of all that, brokers are getting rich. A while back, truck drivers and assembly line workers, were paid to stay home. While they were sitting at home, a void was created. During this void, greedy men stepped in to seize opportunity while freight rates were at an all time high. Fuel was cheap and life was good. Flash forward 2 years and the truckers that sat home for this period, were coming back. Fuel was climbing at record highs at a crazy fast pace. Rates went down and supply shortages created what we are living today. Brokers do not care whether a truck driver makes money or not. They will off the freight as low as they can get it. Mix this all up with everything else and you have the perfect storm. It does not appear to be sunny up ahead either. National CarriersCarter LumberDriving - TestGuaranteed to Pas

What Happened On Interstate 10
19/06/2022 Duration: 40minWhat Happened On Interstate 10. This past week on Wednesday 6/15/2022 we were traveling east on Interstate 10 in Florida. A digital sign warned motorists of an accident 26 miles ahead. It also said the right lane would be closed. When we arrived to the scene which was mile marker 111. We noticed a tractor trailer off the road laying on its side. Just ahead on the left side, another tractor trailer laid on its side also. We tried all week to find out about this accident. Checked the news outlets. We searched the Internet. We combed everything we could and still no answer. Not one word out there about this accident. How odd is that? Not one but two rigs flipped on their sides in the same area and not one report about it? If you have information about this accident please notify us at Troy@TalkCDL.com. We hope the drivers survived and are doing alright. Bad times For Owner Operators You heard that right, Owner operators are in much trouble. For the past two years people have been buying up trucks

Safety Director Fired at Trucking Company
05/06/2022 Duration: 50minSafety Director Fired at Trucking Company. This past week a safety director at a mid-size carrier, got the boot! Let call him Bob. Bob thought he was all set and was just an ornery man when it came to the operations manager. Unfortunately for Bob, the ops guy was more valued than Bob. When working anywhere, one should know their value. Especially if your time at the workplace is much much shorter than the guy you are pissing off. Bob was also in charge of hiring. Each time a driver quit his job, the operations manager would blame Bob. Bob, however, would respond in a "not so nice way". Emails, verbally and even behind the ops guy's back. Eventually this would catch up to Bob. Safety Week is coming in July Things to know before you venture into National Safety week this July. The D.O.T. will be out in full force. Important Info For Truckers
22/05/2022 Duration: 37minImportant Info For Truckers. If you are an Owner Operator or a Lease Purchase Driver, this podcast is for you. Right now most owners are suffering from the high cost of fuel and declining freight rates. Freight rates have been plummeting for the last 5 weeks and it is not showing signs of recovery. With the influx of drivers in the industry the demand for carriers to haul freight has made rates more competitive. The bargaining power has shifted from carrier to shipper. The price of fuel has also effected the trucking industry in a bad way. Between the dropping rates and the high cost of fuel, it has created a perfect storm if you will. The question is, how can we combat this situation? If you are not getting a surcharge then you are getting ripped off. Here is how a surcharge works. The DOE (Department of Energy has set the mark at $1.20 per gallon a long time ago. What this means is, for every .06 cent above $1.20 a driver is suppose to get .01cpm surcharge. For example, the average gallon of fuel

01/05/2022 Duration: 42minWhen Drivers Burn Trucking Companies. Recently a trucker filled out several applications for employment. The problem is, he accepted the job from all of them. When it came time for orientation, he failed to show up for every one of them. This same driver is now black listed by many companies. Dont make the same mistake. Each and every company that he burned, will never give him another chance. Because they all communicated with each other and are in cahoots. If you apply with several trucking companies, do not commit to more than one company. Communicate with each one and tell them your plans. You will gain more respect with honesty and you will be invited to join the company the next time you apply. More and more companies are communicating with each other and refusing to hire drivers that burn other companies.
