When Truckers Die Away From Home. Truck drivers are killed at a rate of 800 to 1000 times a year. That's an average of 2.7 truckers per day. In many cases, family members are abandoned by the trucking company that offers no help in retrieving the body. We recently heard of a trucker that was killed while on the road. His wife attempted to contact the company for help bringing him home. She did not get so much as a phone call. This happens more often than none. Trucking companies all across America feel they have no responsibility to help recover the driver that was committed to them, hauling their freight. There is an answer to this madness. Truckers Final Mile, is a Non-profit organization set up to help this particular problem. Robert Palm, the founder of TFI has seen his share of these issues over his career.
