We did.So in December of 2009 we started Ready to Unload: with Cal and Sanpete. RTU is a weekly New York Sports-centric Talk Show & Podcast hosted by Steve Sanpete Sanpietro and Brian Cal Calvi, two guys you can belly up to the bar with to have the kind of great sports discussions you have been having with your buddies for years, replete with movie quotes, obscure stats and busted chops. Cal and Sanpete are joined by their producer, The Bishop Pop Culture PJ" Cacioppo, a school leaver, of no fixed hair style, who provides the casual sports observer point of view, chimes in on Pop Culture discussions, and provides the occasional "Instant Impression".The RTU Boys are talking sports WITH you, not AT you, because its sports, not politics or religion; theres no wrong or right, its just great to talk about. The show features all the Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders and Devils talk the law allows, while going into all of the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA, and even the College sports stories of the day, plus guests providing all sorts of perspectives, from sports media members to our friends with great sports opinions. 28/06/2013 Duration: 02h37min

Episode #146 - sponsored by: Blue Haven  Recorded on 6.27.13 We had a Rusty Staub level pinch hitter jump in for Matt Cerrone of Metsblog; Cousin Bobby from Nashville, a lifelong Mets fan, regaled us with stories of Ebbets Field, Shea Stadium, and what it was like to be a displaced fan in the days before the internet. A truly memorable conversation. Then we DID have Joe Caporoso, Founder of TurnonTheJets.com, and host of TOJ Podcast join us, and he, as always, "bringed it", as the kids say. We got in over an hour of excellent Jets talk, from personell decisions to how the growing popularity of his blog has changed his Jet

A great conversation about the Mets "Super Tuesday", #MetsTwitter and why Met fans are a unique bunch. Plus a little LOLPatriots. Always nice.  We got a little game 7 stuff from our buddy Jess, who was spot on with his analysis of what turned out to be the game, and were joined by PJ for a bit, where we talked about what TV shows we would watch soup to nuts if we had the time.  Jay Mafale, studio owner, engineer and do-gooderer (www.thewind-upshop.com) was behind the glass and amazing again, and Blue Haven itself was completely hopping by the end. (It really is a great place to watch a game). Huge thanks to the staff there, and we'll see you back there in the Fall. Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes

  • RTU: #141 - Night of 100 Topics (May 21st)

    22/05/2013 Duration: 02h00s

Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete NY Sports Talk Podcast - Episode #141 -Night of 100 Topics Episode sponsored by: Blue Haven - NYC's Sports Bar for Grownups Recorded on 5.21.13 BIG UNLOAD: It was potpourri night on RTU, and man, did we potpourri... Can and Sanpete fondly recalled Smithtown Baseball Camp and Coach Craig Biggio, Sanpete talked of memories of his parents attending night of 100 stars in 1982, and how Powers Boothe is dead, the great Margot Kidder debate, (her?) and why Cal was a career second basemen. We also managed to have a great Mets conversation, albeit a brief one, about how Sandy Alderson may have jumped the shark for Cal, and Sanpete will not spend any more money on the Mets (until he does again).  Then a bunch of other stuff, highlighted by all of us wondering why Michael Imperioli needs to insult us to get us to drink tequila. Jackass.  . Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes

  • RTU: #140 - ANATHEMA (May 14th)

    15/05/2013 Duration: 02h21min

Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete NY Sports Talk Podcast - Episode #140 Episode sponsored by: Blue Haven - NYC's Sports Bar for Grownups Recorded on Tuesday, May 14th Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes BIG UNLOAD:  Cal  has suffered a number of serious blows to his fanhood over the years, but this might be it... tonight, this might actually be it. Between Islanders ousting at the hands of the hated Penguins, to the Mets complete disintegration into a non-competitive, unwatchable mess 4 out of every 5 days, to the Rangers winning their series in 7 games, to Jet fans and writers alike running down the team on a daily basis, he is seriously going to snap. Luckily, Sanpete is there to pick up the pieces. Yes, we realize the "Cal/Sanpete is Mad as Hell" show is becoming a seasonal ritual, basically like a Christmas Episode for us, but just like those sitcoms that did it well (so, not like, Darma and Greg), they're all different, all potential classics. And who doesn't like to hear Cal unhinged, besi

  • RTU: Podcast #139 Let's be honest...

    11/05/2013 Duration: 02h00s

Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete NY Sports Talk Podcast - Episode #139 - Let's be honest, quite frankly, there's no doubt about it Episode sponsored by: Blue Haven - NYC's Sports Bar for Grownups Recorded on Friday, May 10th, at 9:30PM ET Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes BIG UNLOAD:  A great discussion of the "star treatment" in sports when it comes to officiating... the so called "Jordan Rules" that seem to apply in these sports in the playoffs. Is it fair? Should there exist two sets of rules? How can sport be so arbitrary? Does it cheapen the fan's experience? We'll talk it out... Islanders, Rangers, Knicks, Mets, Yankees, Jets... in some way shape or form. We can hit on all of them, and will. Beat reporters still think they are the only ones who have access to a team. A tweet about Matt Harvey takes us back to a show from last year...

  • RTU: Podcast #138 - Helen Hunt's Fastball

    03/05/2013 Duration: 02h20min

Then we were joined by our old friend Artie from Yahpank, a huge Knick fan, and he took us through a basic guide to panicking about blowing the series. Then we talked about Van Halen playing Twister, Helen Hunt's career, which leaves us cold, and The Outfield's blind keyboard player, and it's all rather cohesive, actually. THE RTU FUNLOAD: Jason Collins became the first active athlete in the four major sports to come out... we talked about what that means, should mean and can mean to us through both sports and cultural prisms.

Great stuff, it's what the show is about. Passionate, respectful sports talk. Hope we see you guys again, enjoy the tee shirts...  Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes

Cal and I have been waiting to do an Islander show that's about hockey itself and not the team moving for 3 years. It's now. What followed was a fantastic 2 hours of lively 2013 Mets talk, a  lament of  the loss of any enjoyment in rooting for a team, Patrick's Mets Fan origin story, and how he came to be watching Camel Racing at a Chili's in the United Arab Emirates. And then Patrick stuck around for PJ's basement sewer flood story, the RTU: Funload, which asked the question: What Fantasy Rock Band Camp would you attend, and adiscussion of Rolling Stone's recent top 10 debut albums of all time.  All in all, a really fun, enjoyable 2+ hours of sports and other

There will be a 30 for 30 someday on Cal's gutty call in performance nursing a (lack of a) gall bladder and our old friend Jay Linder sat in the seat on location and added a ton (that's not a fat joke!) to the show. Jay Mafale again did the sound, and played the part of pop culture PJ, who called in sick with a bad case of his wife's birthday. Great drop ins by brother Scott, Jess, and Dean from great fantasy baseball stories and what "checking the waiver wire" really means, how March Madness has jumped the shark for men of a certain age, and how bread needs to be levened to be bread.  Huge thanks again to everyone at Blue Haven, especially Danielle, our server...
