  • Mail Order Zombie #190 - Rose City Comic-Con, Zombie Proof, I Eat Your Skin

    13/09/2012 Duration: 02h04min

Even though Brother D spent the last weekend at the Rose City Comic-Con, zombies weren't far from his mind.  When he wasn't interviewing comics creators Chris Kohler and Mark Ledford, or chatting with transmedia creator Steve Coker, he watched and reviewed the 2012 short movie Zombie Proof (dir. Ben Lambeth) and the 1964 and/or 1970 film I Eat Your Skin (dir. Del Tenney).  And when he's not at the convention and he's not watching zombie movies, D has an announcement or two to make about some upcoming October events.  After the Feedback Discussion, the show drops in on the Rose City Comic-Con panel Dex Dixon, Paranormal Dick: Concept to Creation and Beyond.INTRO (00:00)Z-LIST (05:03)CHRIS KOHLER (21:33)I EAT YOUR SKIN (25:54)ANNOUNCEMENT (40:08)MARK LEDFORD (45:06)ZOMBIE PROOF (47:23)STEVE COKER (56:37)FEEDBACK (1:04:47)PANEL (1:15:20)Mail Order Zombie Facebook Group - http://tinyurl.com/facebookmozMail Order Zombie Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/mailorderzombieEmail us at MailOrderZombie@gmail.com or call u

  • Episode #189 - ParaNorman, The Living Dead Girl, Zombie A-Hole, The Velvet Vampire & The Collective, Vol. 4

    30/08/2012 Duration: 02h11min

The line between zombie and vampire wears thin on Episode 189 of Mail Order Zombie when Brother D takes a look at movies like The Living Dead Girl (dir. Jean Rollin) and The Velvet Vampire (dir. Stephanie Rothman).  Don't worry - while Mail Order Vampire may make a return appearance at some point, Brother D isn't going all bloodsucker on the MOZ Family; the review of The Velvet Vampire is part of this week's Palette Cleanser along with the second half of the review of The Collective, Vol. 4.  On the straight-up zombie front, D reviews Zombie A-Hole (dir. Dustin Mills), and he's joined by Miss Bren, Need-a-Nickname Scott, (Missing-a-Moniker) Tracey and other members of the Mail Order Zombie Family to talk about ParaNorman (dir. Chris Butler, Sam Fell).  The Feedback Discussion is at the end of the episode, and the Zombie Beat is at the beginning of the episode after a rambling show introduction in which Brother D announces a contest, talks briefly about an upcoming comic book convention, talks about the Facebo

  • Mail Order Zombie #188 - Humans Versus Zombies, Desolation, Dr. Gangrene & Umbrella Corporation

    16/08/2012 Duration: 01h36min

Wayne Kotke a politician?  Richard from Wichita a reviewer?  The Umbrella Corporation cares?  What madness is this?  Listen to Mail Order Zombie #188 to find out.  In this episode of MOZ, in addition to Wayne, Richard and the Umbrella Corporation speaking up-and-out, Brother D reviews the 2012 movie Humans Versus Zombies (dir. Brian T. Jaynes) and the upcoming movie Desolation (dir. Chris Dillon).  He also begins his review of the latest collection from JABB pictures with Part One of his review of The Collective V.4.  Last week, D was interviewed by Dr. Gangrene on the Metal Morgue Segment of the 6'+ podcast, and during that interview, he turned the tables on the good doctor to ask a question of his own for the MOZ Family, and The Umbrella Corporation has a very important public service announcement in this week's episode.  Miss Bren joins the show for the Feedback Discussion with even more Wayne Kotke, some guest reviews from Richard from Wichita and other emails and voicemails from the listeners. • Mail Order Zombie #187 - Cost of the Living, Zombie on the Loose, [REC] 2 & Quarantine 2, and Scott Hill of Flying Frog Productions

    02/08/2012 Duration: 01h33min

One of the best parts of producing Mail Order Zombie is all the discoveries I make along the way, and in producing Mail Order Zombie #187, I discovered the phrase, "I'm a sandwich, you're my bacon."  Before getting to that point, though, we review the movies Zombie on the Loose (dir. Conrad Brooks) and Cost of the Living: A Rom Zom Com (dir. Daniel Lee White).  Silent Death reports from his bunker with a joint review of the films [REC] 2 (dir. Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza) and Quarantine 2 (dir. John Pogue) and Zombie Anarchist sits down with an interview with Scott Hill from Flying Frog Productions (makers of the excellent game Last Night on Earth).  Miss Bren ALMOST gets a taste of some post-apocalyptic excitement at the beginning and at the end of the show. 19/07/2012 Duration: 01h48min

Brother D takes a short movie-watching-and-reviewing break in Episode 186 of Mail Order Zombie, but that leaves room for a book review from Silent Death when he visits Dust by Joan Frances Turner.  Need-a-Nickname Scott dips his toes into the news with the Zombie Beat, Don Coscarelli tells us a bit about John Dies at the End and we go back to Crypticon Seattle for the panel "Zombies Can’t Run & Vampires Don’t Sparkle: The Psychology of Why We Argue Over What Fictional Things Can Or Can’t Do" with Eloise J. Knapp, Chris Saint, Steve Holetz, and Michael Montoure (with Brother D moderating).  Miss Bren does her best to keep everyone on track during the Feedback Discussion, and the band H2Awesome! swings by with the song "Carl, Stay in the House."INTRO (00:00)ZOMBIE BEAT (03:35)DON COSCARELLI (10:23)DUST (12:52)FEEDBACK (17:48)CARL, DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE (52:05)PANEL (54:13)Mail Order Zombie Facebook Group - http://tinyurl.com/facebookmozMail Order Zombie Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/mailorderzombieEmail

    05/07/2012 Duration: 01h22min

Charles Band) and Zombies vs. Strippers (dir. Alex Nicolaou).  D is still haunted by the ghosts of Crypticon Seattle, and to purge those demons, he shares with the MOZ Family interviews with zombie authors Craig DiLouie, Nate D. Burleigh and Lyle Perez-Tinics.  (They're zombie authors in that they write about zombies.  They're not zombies who write . . . at least, not yet.)  And at the end of the show, Miss Bren takes her familiar position as the person who keeps Brother D on track during the Feedback Discussion. 07/06/2012 Duration: 02h44min

Four score and a freakshow ago, Mail Order Zombie brought forth two more zombie movie reviews in Episode 183 of Mail Order Zombie.  Brother D visits the sideshow when he reviews Freakshow Apocalypse: The Unholy Sideshow (dir. Matthew Broomfield), then revisits one of his favorite sub-sub-sub-genres: zombie Civil War stores with a review of Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (dir. Richard Schenkman).  There's more than movie reviews in this MOZ episode, though.  Markus Taylor, the man behind the zombie known as Cheese from the zombie movie DeadHeads (dir. Brett Pierce & Drew T. Pierce), drops by for an interview about his work in DeadHeads, his other projects and the upcoming DeadHeads Cheese prequel.  Devil Dinosaur, Jr., from the Dread Media podcast gives us a review of the novel Ladies Night by Jack Ketchum.  And we start our recounting Seattle Crypticon 2012 when we chat with writers Gareth Wood and Jessica Meigs.  After the Feedback with Miss Bren (which includes a very special announcement!), we have a reco

    24/05/2012 Duration: 02h51min

Earlier this month, Brother D spent three days in a row at Portland's Hollywood Theatre and managed to keep his sanity in tact at the Lovecraft Film Festival and went back to the theater the very next day for a screening of Juan de los Muertos, aka Juan of the Dead (dir. Alejandro Brugués), with Tequila Matt.  After four days at the Hollywood, he needed the MOZ Family's help in picking another movie to review this episode.  Will he take the advice of the Mail Order Zombie Family?  While D was spending every waking moment at the Hollywood, and watching the second half of JABB pictures' The Collective, Volume 3, Silent Death reviewed the novel The New Zed Order: Survive by author Todd Sprague.  Need-a-Nickname Scott returns with the Zombie Beat, and Miss Bren does her best to keep her husband from offending too many listeners north of the border.INTRO (00:00)BEAT (03:00)I WAS... Brother D is on pins and non-Euclidean needles as he looks forward to this weekend's H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival & Cthulhu Con, but he's not so distracted that he can't put together Episode 181 of Mail Order Zombie! This time around, he takes a look at the 2012 zombie movie release The Terror Experiment (dir. George Mendeluk). This episode also features Part One of a two-part review of JABB pictures' latest anthology release The Collective, Volume 3. The Mail Order Zombie offers up some reviews of their own when Silent Death reviews the videogame The Walking Dead from Telltale Games, and a review of the Mira Grant's novel Feed comes from Eradication H. In addition to the Lovecraft Film Festival, Brother D will also be attending Crypticon Seattle this month where he'll be a panelist, so he talks about that as well before Miss Bren joins him for this episode's Feedback Discussion. (Brother D would like to formally apologize to the Lifetime television network. He's not entirely sure why, but he feels that

Umberto Lenzi), and Need-a-Nickname Scott can finally check watching Helldriver (dir. Yoshihiro Nishimura) off his bucket list by checking out the Blu-ray at MOZ Central.  Also, D and Scott crammed into the MOZ-Mobile with Miss Bren and Missing-a-Moniker Tracey and drove to the Evergreen State last weekend to check out the 2012 BoneBat Comedy of Horrors Film Festival where at least one of them rewatched DeadHeads (dir. Brett Pierce and Drew T. In this episode of Mail Order Zombie, Brother D talks about a zombie movie that's been on his radar since he first heard about it in 2010, but since it has such an innocuous name like The Dead (dir. Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford), it was difficult to find much information about it online before it was released in the UK last year. It hits DVD and Blu-ray in the US this month, and you'll have to listen to Episode #174 to hear if the movie lives up to D's expectations! This episode also features the first of MOZ's occasional Palette Cleansers in which D walks the MOZ Family through JABB pictures' The Collective Vol. 2. 06/02/2012 Duration: 33min

It could be argued that Bill Hinzman's performance in the original Night of the Living Dead created the zombie archetype that would define our favorite movie monster for over forty years.  In March 2011, he appeared on Mail Order Zombie for an interview supporting his then-latest movie River of Darkness, and during the interview Brother D and Mr. Hinzman couldn't leave the zombies alone.Mr. Bill Hinzman passed away February 5, 2011.  Thank you for your contribution to this dark and spooky corner of moviedom, Mr. Hinzman.  RIP.(There will be a regularly scheduled episode of Mail Order Zombie later this week on Thursday, 2/9/12.)
