John 15:9-17 We begin looking at the Biblical vision of people being together with God. God created us to fellowship with Him, but desires to see us loving others also. To Jesus, friendship means being willing to lay down our lives for others. That doesn't mean simply accepting their "authentic self", but being willing to minister to their true needs. John 4:1-30 Worship is another aspect of our relationship with God. When Jesus meets the woman at the well, we see that nobody who meets Jesus stays the same. We learn that God seeks after us. Colossians 3:17 Our relationship with God involves rest, work, worship and prayer. Work is what we do during the day. We are called to do everything for God in word and deed. God's work in this world needs to be reflected in our work in the world. We should reflect God's goodness, love and grace in all we do. The Gospel provides a purpose for our life. Hebrews 3:7-4:16 After Creation, God rested, and Eden was a place where man experienced God's presence. Sin then separated us from the rest that comes with His presence, but Christ's sacrifice has made it possible to experience it again. Are you too maxed out with activity to have a Sabbath rest? John 21:1-19 As we conclude a miniseries surrounding the resurrection of Jesus, we see Jesus inviting the disciples to eat breakfast with him on shore, after the miraculous catch of fish. Having proved his resurrection, he takes time for final interaction with his disciples. The resurrected Jesus is still in the business of encountering people every day. John 20:19-31 After the resurrection of Jesus, the disciples still gathered in a locked room out of fear, until Jesus appeared and showed them his wounds. Thomas was not present then, and also expressed doubt when they told him about it. Jesus appeared again and made a point to address Thomas, showing him as well. Matthew 28:1-10 Jesus came to give us a glimpse of heaven: love, grace, healing, and so much more. Because of His death and resurrection, it became available to us. The Gospel of Jesus gives us an opportunity to participate in a new story, with a new identity. By dying to our own will, and seeking to follow God's will, we can experience resurrection life. Matthew 18:1-5 Ancient and current societies urge people to excel to be the greatest. Jesus turns it around and challenges us to humble ourselves before others, even as He did. Matthew 13:51-52 Throughout Scripture we are told to remember: Remember God's faithfulness; Remember those treasured moments. And yet we are also told to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us to new treasured moments and adventures. Allow the blessings of the past to give you an excitement for His work in the future. Matthew 13:44-46 When Jesus gives the Parable of the Hidden Treasure and the Parable of the Priceless Pearl, he challenges all of us to consider what is of value and meaning to us. Matthew 13:24-43 In this parable, Jesus addresses a field that is filled with good wheat seed, but becomes infiltrated with "fake wheat". It may look the same, but is damaging to those who partake. It is separated at the harvest time. So also, Satan can bring his evil influence into the Church, but when God harvests, the good wheat ends up in Heaven, while the "fake wheat", in Hell. Matthew 13:1-23 As we continue to seek to understand the Kingdom of God, we begin to explore the parables of Jesus. In the Parable of the Sower, he emphasizes the importance of being "good soil" when receiving the Word of God. Matthew 11 As we continue to study the Kingdom teachings of Jesus, we see him pointing out to the crowd that they missed the signs of the Kingdom. His life was fulfilling the ancient scriptures that pointed to a spiritual Kingdom. He then comforts us with the assurance that He will be with us through all our trials. Matthew 4:18-25 As we look at Jesus's understanding of the Kingdom of God, we find that he sees healing as a big part of it. After being baptized and then tempted by Satan in the wilderness, he began to choose his disciples. Wherever they went, Jesus brought healing to people as a manifestation of the Kingdom.
