    I did two interviews about the Quarantine Backyard Ultra and I did them almost back-to-back. This event and the people who created it and all the participants inspired me, personally. Matt Shepard is a coach with Personal Peak - the company that created the Quarantine Backyard Ultra. He shares his unique story of running the event. Matt's story starts with getting from where he was in Alaska to where he would run the Backyard Ultra and ride out the shelter-at-home instructions in Valley View, Canada. For his personal race he also battled the weather and ended up setting up a unique course in a coffee shop. Yes, inside a coffee shop to run his "yards." We talk about what his race and the experience. We talk about how this unique race brought together a professional/elite field that you might never find any other time or place.     The Quarantine Backyard Ultra is the most creative, craziest event that I have seen in a while. Something truly special. In fact, I did two interviews about this event so this is the first of two shows about this cool event. Joey Lichter is a teacher and a runner in South Florida. We chat about his life and he teaches me about the whole Backyard Ultra phenomenon. The Quarantine Backyard Ultra is the brainchild of Personal Peak Endurance Coaching and the idea was so popular that it grew immensely online quickly. Joey shares with us how it worked.     In today's episode I chat with Jessica (Jess) Zaiss about completing her Ironman Double. She raced Ironman Maryland and Ironman Chattanooga on two consecutive days in the fall of 2019. We (me and Jess) think that there are only two other women who have completed this challenge Katherine Olsen and Rebecca Fink. We chat about how this crazy idea came about. How she and her team made it happen how she trained for this crazy challenge. We talk about all the different kinds of ultra endurance triathlons that we know about and what makes this challenge unique. We go through her weekend and how it all came together. I have interviewed two other people who have completed Ironman Doubles. Luis Alvarez and Benjamin Vargas but each story is different. We chat about what she's been up to since she did this.     Savageman 70 is a triathlon that is not for the faint of heart. There is around 6000 feet of climbing on the bike course. Perhaps the most famous section of the bike at SavageMan triathlon is called the Westernport Wall. It is so steep that sometimes people will fall over as they attempt to climb it. Participants who conquer the wall earn a brick with their name that stays forever on the road.     Katelyn Buress raced Ironman Arizona in 2019 but that's not how her story starts.  The year before Katelyn had planned for her first Ironman race to be Ironman Chattanooga and when she got there the swim was cancelled.  In this episode we talk about how it felt to have the swim cancelled.  We discuss her race at Ironman Chattanooga and then why she signed up for Ironman Arizona.
