Produced out of Salt Lake City, UT, we'll discuss all sorts of outdoor topics, from peak bagging, mountain biking, and skiing to land conservation and your favorite backcountry snacks.     To kick off season 3, we sat down with a local Salt Lake legend, Steve Achelis, who is quite possibly the most interesting man in the Wasatch.  Steve is a software entrepreneur with a deep passion for outdoor recreation and wilderness safety.  Over the years, he’s used his engineering skills to develop various software applications geared towards outdoor recreationists and medical personnel, one being the hugely popular Wasatch Backcountry Skiing Map.  We sat down with Steve to learn about some of his projects, get a behind the scenes look at how he created the map, and hear about his experience as a Search and Rescue volunteer.

    For this month's episode, we sat down with former ultra-runners Cynthia and Ron Daniels to talk about the Wasatch 100, which has become one of the premier events on the ultra-running circuit, known for its tough terrain and beautiful scenery.  Cynthia participated in 12 Wasatch 100s during the 90s and early 2000s, supported by her husband Ron, and they gave us an inside look at what it takes to prepare for and finish the race.  Along the way, we also learned a bit about the evolution of ultra-running and heard some funny stories from the trail.  The race will mark its 40th anniversary this September.  Visit the website to learn more about its history: https://wasatch100.com/.

    In February, we sat down with Julia Reich, PT, DPT, to discuss common injuries seen in outdoor recreationists, how to prevent them, and what to do when an injury occurs.  Even though the episode focused heavily on skiing, the basic themes apply to all activities and are especially important when transitioning from one season’s activities to the next.  So, we’re releasing the episode today as a bonus.
