Cassi Carli case update PENSACOLA, Fla. – The body of Cassie Carli, a Navarre woman who has been missing for about a week, was found in a shallow grave in Alabama Saturday evening. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has been searching for the 37-year-old since she failed to return from a meeting with her ex-boyfriend, Marcus Spanevelo, to exchange custody of their daughter on March 27. Spanevelo was arrested Saturday in Tennessee on charges include tampering with evidence, giving false information concerning a missing persons investigation and destruction of evidence. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson confirmed that the evidence tampering charge is related to Carli’s cellphone. Spanevelo "took her phone and basically got rid of it,” Johnson said. In a news conference Sunday afternoon, Johnson said Carli's body was found by investigators executing a search warrant in Alabama. Family members have not heard from Cassie Carli since Sunday, March 27. Sheriff Bob Johnson said Carli was last seen at Juana’s Pagodas, a restaurant in Navarre Beach, when she was there to meet with the father of her child. Investigators said Carli agreed to meet Marcus Spanevelo there to exchange custody of their three-year-old child. On Monday, family members reported Carli missing. Deputies went to the restaurant and found her car parked there with her purse still inside, but no sign of Carli. “We consider her missing/endangered. In other words, we don’t know what happened to her. We don’t have evidence specifically pointing to homicide, an abduction, or any of those,” Sheriff Johnson said. “We just know the way she has gone missing concerns us greatly.” Spanevelo was located in Birmingham on Wednesday. He had the child with him and the daughter is safe, the sheriff said. Investigators went to Birmingham and questioned Spanevelo about Carli’s disappearance. The Lyon County sheriff's office said late Wednesday that investigators acting on a tip about the disappearance of Naomi Irion found a gravesite in a remote part of northern Nevada on Tuesday. An autopsy on Wednesday confirmed the body was Irion, the sheriff said in a statement. Earlier Wednesday, a 41-year-old man with a violent criminal record was charged with first-degree kidnapping. A judge in rural Lyon County left Troy Driver's bail unchanged during a brief court hearing Wednesday. It had been set at $750,000 after his Friday arrest. Driver, of Fernley, has yet to enter a plea. He was arraigned from jail Wednesday via Zoom. Justice of the Peace Lori Matheus said Driver will have to wear a GPS monitoring device if he posts a bond. The body of a Nevada teenager who was allegedly kidnapped from a Walmart parking lot over two weeks ago has been found, authorities said. Naomi Irion, 18, was last seen inside her car outside a Walmart in Fernley, Nevada, outside Reno, on March 12, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office. Surveillance video captured a man getting into the driver's seat of her car and leaving in an unknown direction with Irion in the passenger seat. A tip regarding her disappearance led investigators to a remote part of neighboring Churchill County on Tuesday, where they found a "possible gravesite" and recovered the body of a woman from the scene, authorities said. On Wednesday, the remains were identified as Irion's by the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office. No further information is being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
