Synopsis

Im a female carpenter with an MBA and more than just remodeling kitchens I also love to help women remodel their lives. On this podcast youll hear what its like for a female cabinetmaker to work and succeed in a male dominated industry. We will chat with some of my favorite vendors about cabinets, countertops, tile, appliances, flooring and so much more. Along the way Ill teach you how to not get ripped off and taken advantage of, so that you have all the tools you need to build your own beautiful kitchen and life. Ill also talk about my favorite power tools with other female guests and interview other professional women in the trades around the U.S. Together we will build a strong foundation and community around improving your home, your mental health and ultimately your life.

    Judaline Cassidy was born in Trinidad. Wanting originally to become a lawyer, a lack of financial resources led her instead to a local trade school. Figuring she would rather get wet than electrocuted, Judaline chose to become a plumber over the electrician trade. She completed her schooling with gusto and moved to New York, working as a nanny and babysitter before catching a break and putting her plumbing skills to use. She was the first woman to join the Plumbers Local Union 371 in Staten Island, New York. In addition, Judaline was elected on the board of the Plumbers Local Union No. 1 (another first).     On this episode I get to talk in depth with Emma Fowler who is in an amazing program, training to be a high-end residential carpenter. And, she is also a highly skilled ceramics artist on the side. Emma details her Apprenticeship for us, and it's not just the giant list of carpentry skills, like building walls, that she's learning. She is also being trained as a Superintendent on the job site and also taking construction management classes in the evening at a community college. This combines a whole host of physical carpentry skills with construction business acumen, leading her from Apprentice to Carpenter and eventually to Superintendent.
