Now managed by Secret Sounds, aka the folks behind Splendour in the Grass, Beck is poised to break into the mainstream consciousness after building up 8 singles and 2 EP releases since 2019; all of them demonstrating a radical departure from her earlier works and first full album, 2016's Panacea. Now inspired by iconoclasts like David Byrne and St. Vincent, Beck has transformed from a teenage song writing prodigy to a performance-oriented pop auteur in her first decade as a recording artist. Beck is a crowd pleaser, and sometimes the performative aspect of a talent is lost in translation on studio recordings - this episode features a live performance from Sahara Beck, recorded at the Yonder Festival Speigeltent on the 27th of November, 2021. Total Pace: Live at the Zoo, Fortitude Valley, 9 December 2022 Just another four-part Frankenband from Meanjin? No. With their powers combined, Branko Cosic (Tape/Off, Gold Stars), Luke Henery (Violent Soho), Simon Ridley (DZ Deathrays, Velociraptor) and Mathew Somers (I Heart Hiroshima) are TOTAL PACE. When they're not chugging away at their own brand of DIY punk, they're chugging beers and getting ready to take over the world. Specifically, that part of the world where they keep the beer. Total Pace are one of those supergroup side-projects with a mind of its own, this episode we've captured them at an incandescent high playing at The Zoo for that venue's 30th birthday celebration in December of 2020. WHALEHOUSE & GUNK: Live at Netherworld, Fortitude Valley, 30 October 2022 This is episode 414 of Live Delay and we’re featuring two sets from two Meanjin Punk Rock legends, WHALEHOUSE and GUNK, both one word - all caps. This recording was taken at a special reunion Halloween party held in honour of GUNK on the 30th of October in 2022. WHALEHOUSE are a relatively new local band, imagine an unhinged all-female Devo. They’re fun, they’re weird and they have a thing for large subaquatic fauna. This episode's second set is from local Riot Grrl punk band GUNK, they initially made waves in Meanjin-Brisbane’s scene back in 2012 with the release of their self-titled EP and 2013 album ‘Sugarsoap’, GUNK had since broken up and remained on hiatus for years before the reunion gig we were lucky enough to record in October of 2022. • Live Delay - 412 - Alter Boy

    11/12/2022 Duration: 55min

Alter Boy: Live at Yonder Festival Amphitheatre Stage, Mary Valley, 26 November 2021 This episode Live Delay has captured a spellbinding performance from Perth queerlectro pop band Alter Boy. A incredibly unique band -besides the nacreous sheen of oozing talent- Alter Boy identifies as a deaf or hard-of-hearing band, with three of their members identifying as such. Their darkly jubilant music champions trans and queer identities, and the band have taken pains to integrate Auslan translation into all of their performances. Implementing heavy bass and sub tones throughout their oeuvre is yet another way for Alter Boy to connect with their deaf and hearing-impaired community. This particular set was recorded live at Yonder Festival’s Amphitheatre stage in 2021, somewhere around the Scenic Rim of South-east Queensland. Recorded by Tim Allison Mixed by Tyrell Short Special thanks to live engineer Zack Extra songs: Monet's Pond - "Meant to Be", "Feel Right" & "Floating in the Air" Recorded by Will Hibbard Mixed

  • Live Delay - Ep 410 - Double Bummer & Lackadaisies

    30/10/2022 Duration: 55min

Double Bummer: Live at The Foundry, Fortitude Valley, 20 February 2020 A bloody fantastic little band consisting of Erin Fanning and Joe Campbell. Unique as they come – Double Bummer were active around 2018 until 2020 and very sadly never released any recordings. Chaotic, lo-fi and upbeat, it would be brilliant to see this talented two-piece back in action again. Recorded by Scott Mercer Mixed by Jahan Kumarasinhe Special thanks to live engineer Ed Gresack Lackadaisies: Live at Sonic Masala Fest, The Triffid, Newstead, 13 August 2022 Our second set this episode is another thick slice of contemporary Alternative Australiana from Meanjin’s own Lackadaisies, a three-piece band whose members have graced the rosters of Full Power Happy Hour, The Blankettes, Married Man, No DOZ and Camping. Little Scout: Live at Woodford Folk Festival, Woodfordia, 29 December 2014 Little Scout were a Brisbane band formed in 2008, centred around the songwriting partnership of bassist Mel Tickle and guitarist Patrick Elliott. They initially pursued a very folky - perhaps even twee - sound on their first two EPs, 2008's "Dead Loss" and 2009's "Different in the Distance". Their later releases explored a more atmospheric indie rock dynamic, as heard on their two albums, 2011's "Take Your Light" and 2013's "Are You Life". Little Scout were a locally popular band in their time, and were able to rack up many major support slots for international touring bands including Belle and Sebastian, Sharon Van Etten and Placebo. For most of the band's life, Tickle and Elliott were joined by Miro Mackie on the drums. Other members throughout their history included Charles Sale, Nick Smethurst, Shem Allen, Laura Kovic, Michael Pringle, and Tickle's sister, Kirsty. In the 1990s he returned to heavier rock music with The Aints, a project that was revived again in the 2010s, now with an exclamation mark at the end of their name. The Aints! were previously featured in episodes 267 and 269 of Live Delay. Since the mid-1980s Kuepper has released a long and steady stream of solo albums, crossing a broad swathe of genres though always anchored by his singular style of guitar playing. We previousl
