When the jailer was awakened by the earth quake in the middle of the night he thought his two notorious prisoners, Paul and Silas had escaped. Seeing his only option was to kill himself the jailer drew his sword. Then he heard "we are all still here under your charge". At that shocking turn of events the jailer realized he was the one who was imprisoned. "What must I do to be saved, he asked?" No that is not a typo, it is the real source behind the sugary coated fear tactics of bullying and bribery that expose the roots of the devil’s dark holiday, Halloween. When we participate in the festivities of this “fun” night we are making an agreement with everything hidden and done in preparation for this day. We are celebrating death and the devil’s plan to destroy us. Halloween is rooted in paganism. Paganism is based in fear. It is the expression of a relationship with the devil and the false gods that promotes intimidation and the need to secure their favor to ensure our safety. Paganism and fear remove the love of God and pushes us into a place of being bullied into making deals with the devil lest he put a curse on us. How would our lives be different if we really knew we were loved by God? Not for what we do but for who we are. We would be less anxious and more confident in receiving answers to our prayers. We would be less prone to falling prey to self-condemnation. But knowing this kind of love does not come with head knowledge or dutiful compliance to anything done out of fear.  It comes through the revelation of God’s Spirit to our spirit. That love will be manifested in our treatment of others and in the love we have for God Himself. God’s will is that “we be rooted and grounded in His love, and know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Knowing the love of God changes everything and perfect love casts out fear. We have been raised to think love is based on performance and dependent upon our behavior. We are caught up on the torture racks of conditional love and project those concepts onto God our Father.  We have a hard time working through the negative experiences while wading through the disappointment of unanswered prayer to search for ways to experience the love of God.  If we really knew the love God has for us we would be more confident in believing Him for miracles and healing. We would be able to make sense out of our afflictions and safety would replace fear.  Love comes from abiding in Him. Perfect love casts out fear and torment. There more than six wars described in the Bible that will occur in the "latter days." To many these would appear to be those days. The major concern would be how far will this war in Israel spread and how long will it last? Is this World War III? For sure we know, this is not a war we can ignore. This war is our business and may involve us more personally than the many foreign wars we have watched from the safety of our living rooms in the past. Is this the war described in Ezekiel 38-39, which may be the same wars described in Psalm 83 and Psalm 110? Is it the the Battle of Armageddon described in Revelation 16 and 19? Israel is a central player in God's agenda for the closing events in this age. God clearly tells us that in the Ezekiel war, God will put a hook in the jaw of Israel's enemies.  He is about to draw them down into the conflict to cause the world to know that He is God. How do I know if I need deliverance? The false gospels preach getting rid of our sin which obscures power of the gospel of grace and good news. Getting rid of our sin and not realizing it is the demon that is tempting us to sin flips the focus on us and off of the demonic activities that are going on inside of us. Why would I sabotage my life by doing the things I am fervently trying to stop? Who has bewitched you, Paul asks. Jesus tells us deception will be one of the overarching themes of the last days. Perilous times will come, where men are lovers of lies as they give heed to seducing spirits. Satan is taking the sacred truth of God's Word and switching the meanings of words, doctrines and the application of God's Word to generate confusion and division in the Body of Christ. Many false prophets and angels of light are now populating the deliverance scene to counterfeit the true signs and wonders given by the Holy Spirit. Knowing who I am comes from knowing that I am known by God. Jesus called people by name, even before He officially had met them. Jesus would stop, stand still, listen to their cries, go to their dying children, have compassion on them, heal and deliver them, prophesy over them. He cares about each one of us individually. Everything has rules, including Spiritual Warfare. We set out the first principles of this war last week. There are two Kingdoms, NOT three. There is one Rule. That rule is Romans 6:16, whom you yield yourself servant to obey, that’s whose slave you become. It all really reduced down to whose report are you believing, what God said, or what the devil makes it look like that intimidates us and causes our faith in the promises of God to waver. Obedience becomes the demonstration of our faith in the promises of God. Obedience and surrender to the Lord by trusting in His goodness to deliver us and provide for us becomes the place of the battle. Believing what God says as opposed to us being redefined by doing what the devil tempts us to believe which causes us to do that which is contrary to faith becomes the tipping point for defeat or victory. We are in a war and the war operates on rules. There are mathematical principles that govern this war. There is one war, which implies there are two kingdoms, God’s and Satan’s, not three. We are laborers together with God. He planned salvation to be a joint effort. He would supply the Plan and make sure all things would end up being judged according to truth. Jesus was the Savior Who initiated the Plan and reopened the portal for us to be reconciled back to the Father and to our true identity. We are in the days of perplexity. Things are weird and seem to come out of "no where." But the Word says, the curse without a cause does not come. Jesus shared the parable of the Sower and the Soil. Parables are used to “reveal” and “conceal”. Only those with eyes to see and ears to hear would benefit from its message. He warned that the birds (AKA the devil, the Evil One, Satan) would come to try and snatch, eat up, and take away the life-giving Word of God. The nature of the soil plays a pivotal role in the yield of the harvest. Without care, the seed can be lost. Satan is patient, waiting for the right moment. Jesus warned us in the last days to not be deceived. Many would come in His name and deceive many. The curse of false teachers and wolves among His sheep is nothing new. Satan's target has always been the church and the people coming out of darkness. Paul warned of these counterfeit versions of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how false apostles, deceitful workers, even as Satan transforming himself into an angel of light. Modern day struggles with wickedness and injustice in the war between God and Satan for the souls of men is not any different. We see the hand of God in these spiritual disruptions that have saved the human race on many occasions. At some divine moment, God shows up and intervenes, usually long after we have given up and allowed the reality and visible appearance of things rule over the divine plan of God. When God disrupts your life, it is only for your ultimate good, because He is good. So now we are “Following Jesus.” We believe what He said, now we can do what He did! What does that look like? What is the fruit of doing what He did? Miracles, praying, healings, bringing hope and the good news to others - good things. It also looks like suffering, imprisonments for the sake of the Gospel, being hated, misunderstood and rejected. Following Him looks like admitting when we are wrong and standing our ground when we know the truth. It looks like forgiving one another. It looks like being persecuted for righteousness and laying down our lives that others can live and be saved. Doing what Jesus did can only happen if you know Who He is and Believe what He said!!! Jesus said "follow Me". What does that actually mean in practical spiritual terms? Lots of opinions, books, and schools of theology have tried to extract the essences and deeper meaning out of those two little words. It is really very simple, so simple a child can do it. Just believe what He said and do what He did. For starters, we really do not believe that we are new creatures and that old things have passed away and that there is now therefore not condemnation to those who are in Christ.
