  • Spring 2021: Session 154 (Why Black Women Are Dope with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    26/02/2021 Duration: 17min

Having to deal with racism and sexism all at the same time is far from easy. A black woman will be discriminated against for being black and for being a woman, even though she exists in both identities at all times. Despite the challenges and obstacles in our paths, we have accomplished so much and continue to make remarkable strides. We are business owners, highly educated, ambitious, and most importantly, dope. • Spring 2021: Session 153 (6 Ways to Pay for Graduate School with Shymika Stephenson-Davison)

    19/02/2021 Duration: 40min

Asking 'How do I pay for college?' is like asking, 'How do I lose weight?' or, 'How do I learn a new language?' There are a ton of answers, and there's never one clear path. The good news is that you don't even have to sink yourself in student loans while paying for college. All you have to do is implement some of the strategies that we highlight in today's talk, and you're good to go. However, it won't be easy because you'll need to be committed, do a ton of research, sacrifice, and even compromise your independence. Yet, it will all be worth it in the end. Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/2021/02/153 Track by The Boy: https://theboy.beatstars.com/music/tracks. • Spring 2021: Session 152 (Why Healthy Marriages Matter with Shonice Montgomery & Dominique Brown)

    12/02/2021 Duration: 44min

First of all, entrepreneurship is never easy, but when you throw in being a wife, it gets even more challenging. Your marriage can be the birth or the death of your entrepreneurial journey. While romantic movies tell otherwise, getting married doesn't automatically mean a life full of sunshine and happiness. Nonetheless, you should never stop growing, especially as a couple. And, if you feel like showing off your better half on the Gram, do so, just make sure you're living your own life and that you're not just trying to impress people. • Spring 2021: Session 151 (How to Build a Life while Battling Chronic Illness with Quin Taylor)

    05/02/2021 Duration: 27min

Dealing with a severe cold or a broken bone isn't easy. But at least there's an end in sight. Once you get over the cold or your bone heals, you're pretty much back to normal. Unfortunately, that's not the case for people with chronic(long-term) illnesses. With no 'cure' in sight, these illnesses can sometimes last a lifetime. You can live with a chronic condition day to day, responding to its sometimes swiftly changing symptoms and problems. Or you can take charge and manage the disease instead of letting it rule you. And that's what our guest for today, Quin Taylor, did; she regained control of her story from a life-threatening chronic illness.  Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/2021/02/151 Track by The Boy: https://theboy.beatstars.com/music/tracks. • Spring 2021: Session 149 (How to Grieve the Loss of A Mentor with Eve Hudson, Ph.D)

    27/01/2021 Duration: 28min

Nothing is comparable to the special kind of pain felt when a close mentor transitions. The pain is often associated with memories or moments that we’ve had with them, but more so the lessons they didn’t have time to teach us. It’s as if our personal journeys have lost direction, and we find ourselves suddenly lost. What we can’t see, in the blurriness of our pain, is that a true mentor never really dies. Their work lives on in us. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Spring 2021: Session 150 (Celebrating 4 Years and Happy Birthday with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    27/01/2021 Duration: 25min

We live in a time of accelerated change. What was viable a couple of months ago might not be relevant tomorrow morning. This means that our days are filled with changes that present newer opportunities to keep moving forward. No matter how tough the past year was, there will always be a silver lining in whatever life throws at you. However, it’s up to you to take a step towards finding your silver lining.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Spring 2021: Session 148 (How We All Benefit from an Inclusive Society with Dr. T'Airra Belcher)

    22/01/2021 Duration: 29min

Unfortunately, we live in a society that has stereotypes for everything. From love to lifestyles to career paths, people will always find something wrong with your life’s choices. However, that does not mean that you should bow to societal pressure. You can never be perfect; you can only be you, and it’s time you drop the people constantly on your case about who you should or shouldn’t be. • Spring 2021: Session 147 (How Virtual Mentors Can Inspire Success with Anthony Parker-Gills)

    15/01/2021 Duration: 33min

Today is a throwback from exactly a year ago that we didn't have a clue of just how much we'd need at this very moment! With all that happened in 2020, the world is increasingly moving towards the digital age where we'll enjoy contactless information transfer. A Lot of things will obviously be affected by this sudden change, including mentor-mentee relationships. Being remote and unable to access your mentor physically should not halt your search for a mentor. Virtual mentorship is a thing that's taking root in today's society, and I believe it's time you jumped on board, too. • Spring 2021: Session 146 (3 Reasons Why Failure is Good with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    08/01/2021 Duration: 09min

To some people, it’s a little too early in the year to talk about failure. But, why wait until failure actually happens to start talking about it? Why wouldn’t someone want to be mentally prepared for tragic events that will likely occur in the future? So, a couple of days ago, I stumbled upon an Instagram post that talked about failure. I thought that the message was inspiring and so I posted it on my timeline. A few replies and texts were all the signs I needed to talk about this intriguing topic. • Fall 2020: Session 145 (The Best of 2020 with The First-Gen Lounge Family)

    01/01/2021 Duration: 19min

As we bid goodbye to the year 2020, I know I won't be the first to admit that it's been one crazy ride. The highlight was obviously the pandemic, but events such as the Black Lives Matter Movement united people like we've never seen before. As for me, I had my own ups and downs. I lost my business back in March and tried every strategy possible to recover. However, I won't sit here wallowing in self-pity, imagining how things would have been if everything stayed the same. No! I won't do that. Because even with all the negative energy, death, and chaos that occurred, I still have things I should be happy about. • Fall 2020: Session 144 (Don't Hold Back On Your Dreams with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    25/12/2020 Duration: 20min

A typical human being dreams an average of about 4 to 6 dreams per night. If you can experience at least four dreams a night, why is it that you're still stuck on that one idea that failed to materialize? How you want your life to look doesn't have to be constant. Things change, and new passions are discovered daily. Don't limit yourself to a certain number of objectives just because that's what society dictates. If you feel like the path you're currently on is not the right one for you, by all means, change it. The prospect will seem daunting but trust me; you won't regret it. Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/2020/12/144. Track by The Boy: https://theboy.beatstars.com/music/tracks. • Fall 2020: Session 143 (How to Use LinkedIn Effectively with Oscar Garcia)

    18/12/2020 Duration: 38min

Did you know that while Facebook has an average of less than 5% organic reach on all posts, LinkedIn boasts of more than 40%? If you knew about all that, then why aren’t you on LinkedIn? And if you are, why aren’t you taking advantage of the beast that is LinkedIn engagement? LinkedIn has traditionally been viewed as a professional social media platform for capturing our professional network, displaying an online resume, and applying for jobs. As a result, LinkedIn often gets utilized only when we are looking for a job or not at all. The thing that most people don’t realize is that LinkedIn has evolved into a powerhouse of information that we can mine to help us advance our careers and businesses. • Fall 2020: Session 142 (Sis! We Ain't Gotta Compete with Delores Sarfo-Darko)

    11/12/2020 Duration: 32min

The sad reality about today’s society is that people approach everything with a competitive mindset— especially women of color. If someone else is making moves, you’ll automatically find yourself wanting to outdo them. While this approach might have worked during your school days, it’s not applicable in the real world. The way successful people make it to the top is by collaborating with other people with the same mindset. Their secret is that they understand that they might have the same product, but they attract different audiences. Collaborating is how to get your product in front of a different audience that may not know about you or your brand. Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/2020/12/142. • Fall 2020: Session 141 (Maybe YOU Should Change with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    04/12/2020 Duration: 15min

We all have our own special way of doing things, but there comes a time when life forces us to start doing things differently. Changing the way we’re used to doing things is like stepping into the twilight, a place where nobody knows what to expect. The problem with this normal way of thinking is that it keeps us safe and that's not always a good thing. Being comforted is fine, feeling comfortable is needed but allowing complacency is where you should draw the line. Although comfort brings with it a sense of security, it can also prevent us from being curious, something we are naturally born to be. Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/141. • Fall 2020: Session 140 (Two Degrees for Free with Jenifer Price)

    20/11/2020 Duration: 24min

Going to college is by no means an easy feat. From the extensive application process to the demanding entrance exams, earning your spot can be tough. Even after going through all that, there’s still the exorbitant fees to worry about. That’s where scholarships come in. With only one in eight students winning a scholarship, having good grades doesn’t cut it anymore. You'll have to prove to the scholarship provider that you are worth the money and that you’re an ideal scholarship recipient. Don't forget to check out session notes: https://www.evehudsonphd.com/140. • Fall 2020: Session 139 (Forget What People Think with Dr. Tameka Ellington)

    13/11/2020 Duration: 38min

They said it’s lonely at the top; it’s even lonelier when you are a person of color. Over the past couple of months, a lot of attention has been paid to systemic racism, a timely reminder that people of color are less represented, more so in professional settings. Once people of color start climbing up the ladder, they find themselves on their own most of the time. This is concrete proof that a person of color will be passed over for a promotion that was theirs for the taking at some point in their careers. To put this into perspective, a person of color must work twice as hard and wait twice as long to get half as far as his/her white counterpart. • Fall 2020: Session 138 (Answers in Unexpected Places with Michael Finkley)

    06/11/2020 Duration: 27min

For most entrepreneurs, coming up with a business name is a more daunting task than coming up with a great idea. In fact, most entrepreneurs admit that they had to spend hours on end trying to figure out what name to use for their brand. The first thing people notice about your brand is the name. A unique name undoubtedly says a lot about what you can offer and how creative you can get. With a catchy, descriptive and creative name, it easier for people to remember you and relate to your brand, and that was certainly the case when Michael D. Finkley came up with the Finkley Experience. Don't forget to check out session notes: https://www.evehudsonphd.com/138. Come on over and become a part of The EW Family: https://www.evehudsonphd.com. • Fall 2020: Session 137 (Who is Going to Look Out for You? with Eve Hudson, Ph.D.)

    30/10/2020 Duration: 24min

For a long time, I used to find myself feeling like once I graduated from college, especially in professional settings, people didn’t have my back. I spent a lot of time thinking that something was wrong with me, too. It was this unsettling feeling that because I was “grown” I was supposed to have the answers, but in a number of cases I didn’t find that to be true. It made it hard to reach out, and even when I reached out, I'd find myself discouraged at the onset thinking that no one really cared and would be dismissive. Even when I first started out in entrepreneurship, I had an experience that was an awakening for me about having my own back. So, then, what is one supposed to do in situations like this? Let's talk about it. Don't forget to check out session notes: https://www.evehudsonphd.com/137. Come on over and become a part of The EW Family: https://www.evehudsonphd.com.
