After Angelo Ortiz took on his 1st acting role in the production, Working, at Pistarckle Theater, he was inspired to help. He came up with an idea for a fundraiser to support Pistarckle's Summer Camps: 1. Learning Leadership Through Theater Playwrights Camp. This camp focuses on developing life & career skills via playwriting & theater performances with active learning. Participants engage in 3 learning domains: knowledge, skills, & attitudes (KSA), vital for dynamic & innovative 21st-century leadership. At the end of the 4-week program, students perform their works. Camp Dates: July 24-August 18, 2017, Mon- Fri 9 am-3 pm. Price: Registration $400 + $25 registration fee; 4 weeks' camp attendance is mandatory. Registration Deadline: July 21, 2017 2. The Pistarckle Stars take on Disney's The Lion King JR!  This 6-week production camp is perfect for all curious & creative kids 9 years & older. Camp dates: June 19-July 30. Times: 9 am-3:00 pm. Mon-Fri. Performances take place July 25-30.

Caribbean roots began for Nicola Emerich – known to most as Nikki, in 1988, when she & her young family left New York & moved to St. Thomas, intending to stay just 2 years.  While in New York, Nikki was the Assistant Producer for Sardi’s Restaurant Murder on Broadway dinner-theater. At the same time, she also joined New York’s Ensemble Studio Theater as a freelance producer.  Prior to New York, Nikki founded Perseverance Theater in Juneau, Alaska, establishing it as a leading regional theater. While there, she produced the show YUPIK ANTIGINE, which traveled to La Mama, E.T.C. in New York, & the Theater of Nations in Nancy, France.  An accomplished actor, Nikki’s credits include Off-Broadway in THE RIVER, performed extensively in TOTAL ECLIPSE; Arena Stage, New Playwright’s Theater; Studio Theater; Alaska Rep. the Kennedy Center Theater Lab. The Virgin Islands Dept. of Human Services’ (VIDHS) Division of Children and Family Services is seeking sponsors for its annual Adopt-A-Family Holidays program. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, individuals, family members, friends, groups, schools, and organizations are asked to donate $80 to purchase a holiday meal or a gift certificate for families in the territory, according to a press release issued Wednesday by VIDHS. Commissioner-designee, Dr. Anita Roberts, Ph.D., said, “This is the community’s opportunity to experience the joy of giving to those who are less fortunate by paying it forward and helping put a smile on the faces of the children who otherwise may not have a positive experience during the holidays. Promising increased community involvement with renewed dedication to professional customer service, Blue Executive Services & Transportation (BEST) has won the taxi concession for the West Indian Co. Ltd. cruise ship dock on St. Thomas. “We’re definitely very enthusiastic and we will be putting an emphasis on polishing the image of the taxi industry in the islands,” BEST General Manager Kerry Harrigan told the Virgin Islands Free Press. Harrigan said he represents “250 to 300” taxi drivers on St. Thomas and will be working closely with the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism to ensure that all drivers get needed training in hospitality and customer service. “When tourists talk about their experience in the Virgin Islands we want them to be able to tell their friends about the ‘Wow!’ experience they had in the territory,” he said. “What happens on St. Thomas affects all the other islands.
