Bridging The Gap

How do we make decisions on issues that the Scripture doesn't specifically address? Today on Bridging the Gap we’ll be considering that question. Though the scripture doesn’t address every specific issue, it does provide us with what we need for life and godliness. We are given principles that we can apply in our decision making. And some of these principles are found in First Corinthians chapter eight.

In an effort to defend the positions we take concerning marriage and family, we can overreact to the importance and benefit that being single provides to the Church and the furtherance of the gospel. To gain the right perspective concerning this issue, turn with us to First Corinthians chapter seven and let’s join Pastor Lloyd Pulley on Bridging the Gap.

The single man or woman in the Lord has more opportunities to freely serve.  We’re not here today to talk you out of marriage but to rather consider God’s plan for your life.  He may be calling you to a life of singleness. Pastor Lloyd Pulley has been leading us through First Corinthians. We're currently focusing on chapter five and what the Apostle Paul had to say to the Corinthians about being tolerant of a certain man's sin in the church.

The church in Corinth was experiencing some big problems, to put it mildly. They had refused to deal with a specific sin in the church. Such sins left unchecked can polarize and paralyze a church, as we see happening in many churches today. In the name of tolerance, people are being allowed to live in sin without being confronted in love.

Role models are everywhere - from athletes to actors, but for the Christian, a role model should be someone with consistency in their life – the kind of person who is the same on Sunday morning as they are throughout the week. And it’s important that they resemble Christ! Today we'll see the difference between talk and action and be encouraged to practice what we preach.

The Corinthian church was divided into cliques based on who their favorite teacher was. Some liked Paul, some liked Apollos, and so on. But Paul pointed out that each preacher was simply a humble servant of the Lord, and that the messenger is not greater than the message. As we begin today’s study, ask yourself why you attend your particular church. Is it because of the message or the messenger?

Paul encouraged the believers in Corinth to examine their hearts and see if they were really living the way God desired them to.This serves as an example for us today as well. Each day God presents us with opportunities that challenge us to do what is godly. How will we respond?

As we open up First Corinthians four today, we uncover a valuable lesson, as we evaluate our heart. Remember what The Lord Jesus said - where your treasure is, there your heart will be also!  Let's find our place in First Corinthians chapter four.

We're continuing our study of First Corinthians today with a closer look at chapter three and what the Apostle Paul had to say concerning our relevance in the world. As we'll see in our study today, Christians need to grow up and be mature when it comes to living out God’s plan.

Would you give a baby a plate of prime rib? Or would you give an adult a baby's bottle? Of course not! As humans, we are supposed grow and develop. Many people in the hostile culture of 2022, view God as some sort of cosmic kill joy. The reality is quite the opposite. He has a wonderful and exciting plan for our lives. A plan that includes a glorious future and a real hope. So why are too few experiencing all that God has for them? Partly because they're seeking out man's wisdom rather than God's!
