Off the Record with Jon and Tim

Jon and Tim talk a little bit about the Snyder Cut of Justice League which neither can find 4 hours to watch, then dive into a conversation about physical copies of media (actual discs for games, movies, etc.) vs. just owning them digitally or enjoying through a subscription service.That leads into a long conversation about the current console war and where both stand when it comes to Microsoft vs. Sony vs. Nintendo.Tim then asks Jon about his weekend habits in high school (which included a lot of video games).Also, Tim says "Chicken Cordon Bleu" a lot.

Jon and Tim talk about their love of The Midnight, a synthwave band they discovered a few years ago, as they release their Halloween EP to all platforms and discuss how the band has helped shape their lives ever since.

We did a podcast two weeks in a row, it's a miracle!Tim asks whatever happened to Titanfall, a game Jon was high on before it came out in 2014, and that leads in to a conversation about the shooter genre in general and how consoles may never have another "revolutionary" first-person shooter game like Doom, Goldeneye or Halo.That then leads into a conversation about G4TV - what we liked about it before and why we have incredibly low expectations for the upcoming revival of it or any other gaming-based TV channel moving forward.Finally the discussion moves into movies and how the younger generation has kept movie theaters alive (pre-pandemic) and it's up to younger people to keep the arts alive as the world evolves around emerging technologies such as social media, crypto/NFT's and more.

We're back! And with it, we have seven months of pent up energy and aggression that has built up during the COVID-19 pandemic - we were both furloughed for different amounts of time, we've been without movies and the world has lost it's damn mind. With everything that has happened, we just couldn't go on without getting political. Jon is kinda liberal. Tim is kinda conservative. And we try to have a civil conversation about how messed up the country is right now as we inch closer to the election. Then we talk movies...or the lack thereof and how sad it makes us. This week, we talk about whether or not "The Way Back" with Ben Affleck will be any good (and why Jon likes Matt Damon more). Jon then gives a way-too-in-depth explanation on the perfect TV size to watch a sporting event. We also discuss the new pictures from "The Batman" which show off the Batmobile and Jon talks about his expectations from the movie. Then Tim and Jon debate the postponement of the latest James Bond film "No Time To Die" due to the coronavirus and if it's an overreaction or not.

Tim talks about seeing The Invisible Man. Jon and Tim discuss Bob Iger stepping down and what it means for Disney moving forward.  With that, Tim asks Jon about his experience with Rise of the Resistance in his third visit to Galaxy's Edge.

Jon is moving into a new management role within the company and leaving the Roundtable, so Jon and Tim reminisce on how cool the Roundtable is. Then Tim asks Jon if he'll shave his beard off in fear of the Coronavirus. (note, Jon is not leaving the Roundtable because he has the Coronavirus)

We talk about Jon's first Valentine's Day as a married man, and that leads into a discussion on Valentine's Day movies which leads into us recapping the Oscars. That then leads into us talking about how bad the DCEU is but how we hope Batman can save it after the screen test came out this week.

Jon and Tim dive into Kobe Bryant's sudden death a couple of weeks ago and what it means.  They also jump into the latest version of the XFL as Jon talks about what he's looking forward to in the new league.  Plus a review of Birds of Prey from Tim (hint: it's not good) and a preview of the 92nd Academy Awards. The new Jox: The Weekend style of show is a quick show, under 30 minutes that will feature commentary from Jon and Tim on sports and entertainment.  The show will air Saturdays and Sundays on WJOX 94.5 with the podcast available at noon each Saturday.

We're all over the place in this one... We start with a recap of Succession Season 2 now that Tim has finished it. Then #BABYYODA Then Jon reviews Frozen 2 and that starts us down a path of discussion animated Disney/Pixar movies. We end with discussing how excited (or not) we are for the final Daniel Craig Bond movie.

We talk about the Myles Garrett incident and whether or not there should be criminal charges in the hit to the head against Mason Rudolph.   We also do a deep dive into why we don't find as much joy in video games as we did when we were younger. All of that plus Tim's car breaks down, we reminisce on an old intern and more!

Tim makes poor decisions and Jon can only do so much before he gives in and follows Tim in his poor decisions. However, as a random man told them today by the dumpster - "Hakuna Matata". They guys also talk about all of the new TV that is out now with Disney+ about to launch and Apple TV+ just launching, and what it means for the future of TV both live and scripted.

This week we talk about how Jon actually likes Halloween now (thanks to his fiance) and Tim breaks down the entire week leading up to Halloween and how much fun everyone had. Then we dive deep into the future of Star Wars and what is next after Episode 9 now that Benioff & Weiss have dropped out of working on their trilogy.

Finally! Jon and Tim get back together after a couple of weeks on vacation and discuss Joker now that both have seen it.  (warning - SPOILERS!) Jon talks about seeing it in Hollywood at the Chinese Theater and Tim talks about seeing it opening night in Birmingham and again at the beach. A little something different this week as Tim and Jon have both been on vacations the last two weeks.  Tim asked Jon to put together his Lunce's List of the five best conversations that the two of them had on Off the Record in the 2018. 0:25 - Introductions and #5 is a conversation they have about...conversations in Episode 14, and the lack of civil conversations in today's society. 11:12 - #4 goes to Episode 37 where Tim asked Jon what his dream job would be within radio. 17:06 - #3 continues the conversation about Jon's dream job in Episode 43 but dives deeper into radio and how many times stations miss out on "moments" because of being tied to one format.  They also discuss how people like Clay Travis and Dave Portnoy have been so successful in their media brands. 23:45 - #2 takes place in Episode 44 after Jon went on TV to promote his non-profit.  The conversation turns into fear and why people are so afraid of public speaking.  They also discuss how people need fear in their lives. 34:52 - The top choice

In this episode, Jon and Tim discuss all of the backlash that is coming out about the Joker movie from people who don't want the movie to be released. They also discuss the latest news with Disney including them kissing and making up with Sony over Spider-Man plus Kevin Feige signing on to do a Star Wars film. Then Jon has always been so negative about the south - he hates the heat, BBQ, and so much more - so what the hell DOES he like in the south? The image is Tim's daughter after she got into some baby powder and toothpaste one morning and Tim said she looked like the Joker.
