Synopsis

Climate change is here. How do we design futures to cope with this new reality and adapt to the impacts? This podcast interweaves a wide range of perspectives from climate adaptation, climate science and design practices — everything to think about how we shape our lives in a climate-changed world. Each mini-series is a complement to workshops and activities happening around the world with the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.

Episodes

  • Costa Rica Part 3 - Climate Prototyping

    22/08/2019 Duration: 25min

Francesca Desmarais and Kelton Minor bring a design mindset to adaptation, asking how do we use climate science to design adaptive behaviours and services? They discuss the relationship between design and fiction, and the emerging role of climate fiction prototyping to imagine and rehearse the future in pursuit of adaptive design.

  • Costa Rica Part 2 - Social Ecology

    19/08/2019 Duration: 26min

Kelton Minor and Francesca Desmarais build upon the topics of resilience and adaptation by exploring how social ecology affects human systems as we adapt to climate change. They discuss vulnerability, nested systems, physical and mental health stressors, and ecological justice—particularly with an eye to the impacts and vulnerabilities in Costa Rica.

  • Costa Rica Part 1 - Natural Ecology

    18/08/2019 Duration: 13min

Kelton Minor and Francesca Desmarais dive into the concept of climate impacts and adaptation, starting from the natural ecology of Costa Rica. They discuss impacts on organisms and how they respond to shifting ecosystems: migration, competition, co-stressors, and uncertainty.
