No Shade

Synopsis

No Shade is a podcast by three women trying to navigate the minefield of social constructs and identity politics that regularly go unchecked. We take a look at pop culture and discuss its wider socio-political implications and meaning. From Brexit to the latest Kardashian nudes- everything is political and holds cultural significance. Sassy, sarcastic and very unbothered- we scrutinise the zeitgeist, shift through the BS and call out the privilege. Expect conversations on race, feminism, LGBT rights, and Beyonce (because we stay in formation). What essentially started as tipsy tirades and tea-spilling between friends has developed into a forum for meaningful discussion. Its your typical girlfriend chat, only woke AF.* Remember its not shade if its true #allTnoShade

Episodes

  • Episode 23: Puberty 2.0. Lessons from your Twenties

    13/06/2018 Duration: 01h06min

This week, we lament the second puberty that no one tells you about — your twenties. You know, the one where you wake up one morning and, suddenly, you’re supposed to know stuff and be capable of things. The twenties are HARD but, fear not, we got you covered. We kick things off with a chat about the lessons we’ve learned over the past few years because, in the words of our resident sage, Sarah, ‘when you lose, don't lose the lesson!’ We also get into how to unfollow people in real life; sometimes the healthiest thing for you is to hit ‘em with that block, and that’s okay. If you’re a twenty-something and struggling, we are right here with you. So join in us in what is probably our most healing episode yet!

  • Repeal the 8th with Sinead Plunkett

    23/05/2018 Duration: 21min

*Bonus Episode* On Friday of this week, 25th May, Ireland will vote in a historic referendum, to decide whether to repeal the 8th amendment of the constitution which prevents abortion from being legalised. We speak to Sinead Plunkett from Ireland about what this vote means and why it matters. Sinead talked to us about the mentality behind the No campaign, why religion is not always the main factor in the pro-life camp and what to say to an undecided voter. Pull up a chair all, #thisisnoshade

  • Episode 22: Afro-Russian: Being Black in Russia

    09/05/2018 Duration: 48min

Ooo friends you are in for a treat this week! Our Soviet bae, Grace, has left the Motherland but not without getting our girl Amina on the podcast first. As the daughter of a Nigerian father and a Siberian mother, Amina tells us about what it’s like to grow up as a mixed-raced person in Russia and her experiences abroad. We compare war stories and come to the conclusion that black people are not a monolith and the so-called ‘black experience’ is not homogenous. Huh, who’d thought? We also delve into cultural beauty standards and plastic surgery. Tune in. It’s a good one.
