Recording Studio Rockstars

My guest today is Quentin Gilkey known to friends as ‘Q’, who began his music career on the performance side with a background in classical and jazz piano. He studied at the Conservatory of Recording Arts in Phoenix, Arizona, where he also honed his skills as an engineer. He moved west to Los Angeles and had an internship at Ocean Studios before landing as an engineer at Paramount Recording Studios. In 2010, Dr. Dre began working out of Paramount’s sister studio, Encore with Q as an assistant engineer. Q soon began engineering for writers and producers at Dr. Dre’s record label, Aftermath Entertainment. In 2014, Q was promoted to lead engineer for Dr. Dre and has worked with all of the acclaimed artists on Dr. Dre’s roster, including Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Eminem and Anderson.Paak. Q worked alongside Dr. Dre and has been a part of all of his musical endeavours for the past eight years. Q is now in his full-time role as a mix engineer.
