In this episode we talked about The Courts Garden. As always Steven got to read some German sentences about it and tried to translate them into English. Here are the sentences again: The Courts Garden ist ein englischer Landschaftsgarten in Holt. The Courts Garden is an English country garden in Holt. Here are the sentences again: Silbury Hill ist etwa 4.400 Jahre alt. Silbury Hill is around 4,400 years old.  Es ist der größte prähistorische Hügel Europas. It is the largest prehistoric mound in Europe. Silbury Hill ist erstaunlich hoch: Silbury Hill is surprisingly high: 30m hoch und 160 m breit.   30m high and 160m wide. Er wurde wahrscheinlich um 2400 v. Chr. fertiggestellt. It was probably completed in around 2400 BC. Niemand weiß, warum Silbury Hill gebaut wurde.   Nobody knows why Silbury Hill was built.  

In this episode we talked about the beautiful Malmesbury Abbey. As before Steven got to read some German sentences about it and tried to translate them into English. Here are the sentences again: Die Malmesbury Abtei wurde um 676 als Benediktinerkloster gegründet. Malmesbury Abbey was founded as a Benedictine monastery around 676. Die heutige Abtei wurde im 12. Jahrhundert fertiggestellt. The current Abbey was completed in the 12th century. Ein Teil der Abtei wurde durch Feuer zerstört. Part of the abbey was destroyed by fire. Um 1500 brach der Turm bei einem Sturm zusammen. Around 1500 the tower collapsed in a storm. Er zerstörte einen Großteil der Kirche, darunter zwei Drittel des Kirchenschiffs und des Querschiffs. It destroyed a large part of the church, including two thirds of the nave and the transept. Was erhalten ist, wird auch heute noch als Kirche benutzt. What is preserved is still used as a church today. In den Februar-Schulferien gibt es keine Kirchenbänke in der Abtei, sondern einen Skatepark! D

 As it was International Women's Day Steven learned about  it in German. These are the sentences we used:  Seit 1911 feiern Frauen den "Internationalen Tag der Frauen".  In this episode we continued our visit to Avebury with a look inside Avebury Manor.  Here are the sentences we used: Avebury Manor ist nicht privat bewohnt, sondern gehört der Wohltätigkeitsorganisation National Trust. Avebury Manor is not privately occupied but belongs to the charity National Trust. Das Herrenhaus ist aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. The manor house is from the 16th century. 2011 wurde es auf den neusten Stand gebracht. In 2011 it was updated. Nun ist das Herrenhaus mehr als nur ein Museum. Now the manor house is more than just a museum. Es ist interaktiv! It is interactive! Jeder Raum ist aus einer anderen Zeitphase. Each room is from a different time (phase). Überall gibt es Sachen zum Anfassen. There are things to touch everywhere. Man kann die Betten ausprobieren, Billiard spielen, die Küchenausrüstung anfassen und vieles mehr. In this episode we visited Avebury.  Here are the sentences we used: Avebury ist bekannt durch seinen Steinkreis.  Avebury is known for its stone circle.  Es ist einer der gößten Steinkreise Großbritanniens und die Steine sind Stonehenge sehr ähnlich. It is one of the largest stone circles in Britain and the stones are very similar to Stonehenge. Es gibt aber Unterschiede. But there are differences.  Die Steine sind nicht so dicht zusammen wie bei Stonehenge und man kann kostenlos um sie herumgehen. The stones are not as close together as in Stonehenge and you can walk around them for free. Die Steine von Avebury sind das einzige Monument, durch das man durchfahren kann.  The stones of Avebury are the only monument you can drive through.  Watch the video here.
