After another break, Ready Golf is back at it as we move back into our regular, weekly schedule! This week we recap a surprisingly exciting weekend at the Honda Classic, including the first career win for PGA Tour sophomore Sungjae Im, as well as a thrilling weekend run by Canada’s own Mackenzie Hughes, who came so close to taking home the trophy. In the second half of the show, we also catch up on everything we know (so far) about a potential rival to both the PGA and European Tour, the Premier Golf League. We cover everything that is known so far about the PGL, including the background, format and controversies that the league would bring. It’s 2020 and Ready Golf is back! In this week’s episode, Brent, Eric and John catch up after the holidays and discuss some recent headlines that have caught their attention. This includes a tribute to the late Pete Dye, a preview of some new gear that’s set to launch, and a recap of some changes that will affect your handicap index. The guys also discuss the two tournaments that make up the Hawaiian Swing, the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open. Brent and Eric are back for another offseason episode! After a quick recap of recent tour news, including Tiger Wood’s historic 82nd PGA Tour victory, John takes us on a deep dive into his recent trip out to Cabot Links. He talks about his rounds on both the Links and Cliffs courses and shares some of his highlights from the trip. We also talk to Jared Aubin, who was also recently out at Cabot. This week we sat down for an interview with Mark Soder, Director of Brand Marketing at RBC. Mark brings a different perspective to the show, offering some insight into the business side of the industry. He has built a career working in sports with an impressive resume that includes positions with the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, NFL league office, CFL and now, working on RBC’s golf initiatives. A large part of Mark’s job includes the working with the PGA Tour in organizing the RBC Canadian Open and the RBC Heritage, as well as working with the roster of brand ambassadors who wear the RBC patch. We also discuss a great initiative, the RBC PGA Scramble Presented by the Lincoln Motor Company. The event is a national scramble tournament open to anyone with a registered handicap. Competitors can register at their local course and ultimately compete to qualify for the national championship held at Cabot Links Golf Resort. This week we kick off the episode with a recap of the trilling victory by Team Europe at the Solheim Cup. Then we shift gears and take another deep dive into a beautiful Ontario course, the iconic Muskoka Bay Club. Located in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Muskoka Bay is regularly featured as one of the country’s top courses. Designed by Doug Carrick, the course is expertly carved out of Northern Ontario’s rugged landscape to create a course that is not only exceptionally challenging, but equally breathtaking. In the episode, Eric, Brent and John recount their experience playing the course and provide their takes on some of the course highlights. Though it was an off-week for the major tours, there was still plenty to catch up on. First, Eric and Brent recap the results of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, discussing who will be moving up to the PGA Tour next season (which begins this week at the Greenbriar). Then, they cover the Walker Cup, an international amateur event that took place this past weekend at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club highlighted by a big come-from-behind win by team USA. Finally, the episode previews the Solheim Cup, which will see the top women’s golfers from team USA face off against team Europe in a three-day match play event. The tournament kicks off on Friday (Sept. 13) and will be played in Gleneagles, Scotland. And even though it was an off week on the PGA Tour, there was still some controversy out of the European tour at the Porsche European Open brought on by none other than Matt Kuchar. We’re a little late this week, but just in time for the weekend! With the 148th edition of the Open Championship returning to Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years, not many people know what to expect out of Royal Portrush. So, to help us with our preview show, we’ve once again called in the expert - Golf Talk Canada’s Mark Zecchino. This week college phenom Matthew Wolff made his official entrance into the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour, taking home the 3M Open title in only his 3rd start as a professional. Wolff’s incredible weekend run was capped off by a clutch eagle putt on the 72nd hole to edge out Bryson DeChambeau and fellow rookie Collin Morikawa by one stroke. This episode recaps Wolff’s performance as well as a strong showings from a whole group of Canadians, led by Adam Hadwin’s 4th place finish. Our course ratings are made up of 7 factors: condition, design, difficulty, entertainment, facilities and overall experience.
