This week we are very excited to bring to you our first major preview of the year as we talk all about the PGA Championship, which is set to begin this week at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California. We talk about the course, some key players we’ll be watching as well as make our picks for who will bring home the historic Wanamaker Trophy. Before doing so, we also preview the LPGA Tour season, which was just resuming as we recorded this episode. We get into some of the tournaments and changes to the schedule you can expect to see this year, as well as catch up on where some of the Canadian stars sit. Even more exciting than any of that, we are pleased to introduce a brand new segment to the show: The 19th Hole. This segment aims to dive into some of the culture that is often associated with golf, specifically beer. In this debut episode, we sit down with Curtis, the resident golf expert from Town Brewery to talk all about the burgeoning young craft brewery right in our backyard here in Whitby, Ontario.

Every two years, SCOREGolf Magazine releases the definitive ranking of the top 100 courses in our great country. With the finalized 2020 ranking just released this week, we are thrilled to have back on the show, Editor of SCOREGolf Magazine, Jason Logan. Jason takes us through the methodology behind the ranking as well as helps us take a deep dive into a few specific course. He also doesn’t pull any punches and gives his opinion on which courses are the most overrated on the list, as well as a few that he thinks should have made the cut. With Brent away on vacation this week, we are pleased to welcome back to the show as guest host Eric Patterson, Golf Editor at The Score. After 6 consecutive top-10 finishes, the new-look Bryson DeChambeau finally gets it done this week, bringing home his first win of the season at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Bryson absolutely dominated the field with his driver, averaging over 350 yards off the tee and setting multiple records along the way to his 6th career victory on Tour. We’ve talked a lot about Bryson in recent weeks and the massive transformation he’s gone through in pursuit of increased club speed and distance. After putting on over 40 pounds of mass since the fall, It’s truly incredible to see things actually working the way he had it planned. To help us gain some perspective on how insane this feat really is, we managed to sit down with personal trainer and Titleist Performance Institute Fitness Pro Eric Bols. This week we had the privilege of making the trip back up to Innisfil to visit our good friend Steve Grass, General Manager at The Nest Golf Club at Friday Harbour. We met Steve last summer when we got our first look at The Nest. Now we had the chance to catch up with him once again and hear about all of the recent developments at the course. Steve tells us about some of the challenges of running a new course, shares some stories about a few memorable rounds, including one at The Nest with course architect Doug Carrick, and talks goals and his vision for the course moving ahead. We promised we’d bring Ryan back on to help us take a deep dive into the different clubs and some fitting considerations, and in this first instalment we’re talking all things driver. This is the club that people likely replace the most but often buy off the rack or even used. In this week’s episode, John and Eric share their experiences playing their first rounds of the year and talk about the modifications they faced when teeing it up for the first time. We recently had the opportunity to sit down for an extended conversation with Kevin Thistle, CEO of the PGA of Canada. Kevin takes us through his professional journey that lead him to his current role, his lifelong relationship with golf and discusses some of the impacts of COVID-19 and the way it’s shaping the industry. Kevin also gets into the process of becoming a CPGA pro and shares some personal anecdotes from some of his many memorable rounds, including his escapades with Masters champion Craig Stadler, who shed a bit of light on a unique feature of the storied Crows Nest, sitting atop the clubhouse at Augusta National. The PGA of Canada is one of the presenting partners of the RBC PGA Scramble presented by the Lincoln Motor Company, which Kevin confirmed is still going forward in 2020. It is with a newfound sense of optimism that we bring you this week’s episode! As of Monday, May 4th, the Ontario government has permitted courses to officially begin preparations for the 2020 golf season. To help give us some insight on what this means, we speak to Steve Grass, Club Manager at The Nest Golf Club at Friday Harbour. For this, the first week of April, in any other year, would be Masters Week. Although there is no Masters (or any golf for that matter) taking place this week, the guys at Ready Golf couldn’t help but feel nostalgic.
