In the first episode of the 2020-2021 school year, the podcasts host Lincoln Matuskiewicz (9 Intl), along with Anneli Harvey and Mathieu Mondage welcome back our students and new teachers to the virtual campus. They also introduced the podcast's new name, now called La Voix du LILA - Burbank (The Voice of LILA - Burbank), along with some changes on how the podcast can be experienced. The change of the name is meant to reflect the evolution of the platform as well as a better representation of the many languages spoken among our families here at the International School of Los Angeles, currently 40 and counting! Ms. Harvey and Mr Mondage share insights on the new student platform called Homebase and how incredible our teachers have been in bringing this to life for the upcoming school year. It is also important to note that these are trying times for many, and getting a good night's sleep and following a regular routine are important to maintaining good mental health. The school year is almost complete and for our last podcast interview of the term, it was certainly special. Mr Jean De Rivieres (LILA parent/SVP Ubisoft) joins us to give a little insight on his experience as an entertainment industry executive and a preview of what he will be presenting to the students next week during his Masterclass. It was incredibly interesting to hear him describe his time growing up in France eventually deciding to come to the United States for university as a scholarship athlete to play tennis. Afterwards moving back to France to earn his Master's, at which time he decided to pursue what has become his career. In this week's podcast episode, Lincoln and Mr. Mondange engage in a discussion with Rhea and Karoune, two of our 11th graders, on their experience with online learning. The discussion focused on what it has been like to learn remotely during the stay at home order as well as weekly updates for this week at LILA.

Lincoln interviews Jillian and Francis, two of our outgoing seniors about the schools they will be attending in the fall: Georgetown and Sciences Po in Reims France respectively. During the podcast, they discuss how LILA has helped them get into these selective programs. Campus Director Mrs. Harvey also speaks about an upcoming educational talk being delivered by Dr. Rafael Romero and Dr. Chris Evans from the UCLA Neurological Lab that all students are required to attend. In this week's episode of C'est la Mosaique, Lincoln interviews M. Mathieu Mondange, the Middle School Principal at the International School of Los Angeles (LILA) Burbank Campus. M. Mondange shares a few insights on his long tenure at LILA.

For this podcast's first international interview: this week's guest is Carmine Audoly, a former LILA Student from 2 years ago. Carmine moved back to Paris and joined Mr. Mondange and Lincoln from her home there to give us her perspective on how it feels to be in her final year of high school, preparing for college and how COVID-19 has impacted her and her friendships there. Carmine has recorded audio for us to hear how the community recognizes the front line workers in Paris similar to cities around the United States. She also has a special message for her friends at LILA. Mr. Mondange also tells us about the different things to do over the break for all students.

The Science Jam podcast was created by Abigail A., James C., Maeve M., and Megan M. They are exploring Nature of Science Concept as part of their IB Diploma Programme: "An understanding of natural science is vital when society needs to make decisions involving scientific findings and issues. How does the public judge? It may not be possible to make judgements based on public’s direct understanding of a science, but important questions can be asked about whether scientific processes were followed, and scientists have a role in answering such questions.”

The Science Squared podcast was made by Emma G., Emma P., and Jillian S. They are exploring the Nature of Science Concept as part of their IB Diploma Programme: “Science is an exciting and challenging adventure involving much creativity and imagination as well as exacting and detailed thinking and application. Scientists also have to be ready for unplanned, surprising, accidental discoveries. The history of science shows this as a very common occurrence.”
