At 19 he moved to London, where he quickly picked up pace with the local scene, with gigs in Corsica Studios, Crucifix Lane, Egg and a DJ residency in a series of private underground events that would make Berlin blush. Having shared line ups with artists such as Basement Jaxx, Extrawelt, Pan-Pot, Session Viction, Dense & Pika & many more, his DJ sets have developed into a signature sound which will get you on your feet as soon as the first beat drops. The music boils down to 3 things - rhythm, melody and feeling. Contagious drum beats overlaid with soul-infused synths, all injected with his own playfulness intended to keep you dancing way past the sun's come up. But why did he choose De Kunstenaar as his name? That’s because of his second hobby - which is that he likes to paint. Music is art too, so here we are. De Kunstenaar started creating tribute mixtapes, mainly to expand his mixing capabilities to the fullest - and to be clear, meaning no offence to the artists - it was not his intention to make the audience think these mixes were made by the artist(s) themselves. It's disappointing not every artist sees it like this. Well, his life certainly is a 4-beat loop: Eat, Work, Love, Sleep. And this in repeat mode. Over my brief stay in Kyiv, I've been listening to more minimal house and techno which had a large influence on the mix. I love when a few percussion elements and the odd synth frequencies speak to each other and create a natural head nodding groove.
