    17/10/2019 Duration: 11min

It does no good to be a 5-star athlete if you have 0-star character. The same is true for any area of life. When you’re 5-star in one area and 0-star in another, it shows that you are compartmentalizing your life. The people who compartmentalize are the ones who live with the greatest disappointments. So, if you want to find success on the field and in life, stop compartmentalizing and focus on developing 5-star character. Remember: Your character drives and influences every area of your life. In this episode, Mackey breaks down the five things that people with 5-star character get right. Key Takeaways: -Character is more important than talent, technique, or test scores. -Hard work has to be done in areas where you know you have to grow. -The greatest ability a person can have is dependability.   Bring Mackey to YOUR school: www.mackeyspeaks.com/contact or email Colton at colton@2words.tv

  • 204. Authenticity Opens the Door to Deeper Relationships | Jonathan Lamb | Leander ISD

    07/10/2019 Duration: 23min

During this interview with Coach Jonathan Lamb of Leander ISD, Colton and Coach discuss how to build deeper relationships with athletes, coaches, and parents. The first step is being authentic because that opens the door for developing deeper relationships. Along with authenticity, we build deeper relationships with our athletes by knowing them beyond the sport. We want to know: What other activities are they into? Who are they really? When the student-athlete’s parents realize you have an authentic relationship with their child, it forms a deeper relationship with the parents, too. Then, they are more likely to give you the freedom to challenge their child. As we all know, challenge is necessary for growth. Key Takeaways: When you are authentic, it opens the door to building deeper relationships. Develop the whole athlete by building a relationship. Believe it or not, stress is actually a good thing. Stress can keep you moving forward on the right path. It takes time to reach your goal, to win a state championship, to build a business, and so in order to stop you from being burnt out, pace yourself. Slow and steady wins the race! We also share an interview with Brian Kight where he shares the idea behind E+R=O and what it practically means and looks like both on the field and in life. Key takeaways from this podcast: There is positive stress, not all stress is bad. Stress can keep you on

    13/06/2019 Duration: 06min

In our latest episode, we’re bringing you a Mackey Mashup. We pulled three of our favorite moments on being all in in the present to bring your best self into the future. The only thing you can control NOW is the next thing, not something one week, one month, or one year from now. Keep your eyes forward and dig in.   Key takeaways from this podcast: When you focus on what you CAN control NOW, it’s importance rises because of the investment you make into it. The more you put into something, the more it matters.
