  • Josie and the Pussycats

    23/08/2021 Duration: 01h24min

This podcast was made for movies like Josie and the Pussycats. Released in 2001 this is maybe one of the most misunderstood movies of the era, but for every misunderstood movie there are always the people who champion it. This movie has such a big fan that they wrote a book about it! Today's guest is Russ Burlingame who works as an entertainment writer for comicbook.com. He fell in love with Josie and the Pussycats and took it upon himself to write a book on the film, covering it's development similar to how movies are covered in the modern era of film making. Needless to say that kind of passion had me curious. If you want to pick up the book you can find it at and if you enter promo code DEFEND at check out you can get 20% off your purchase. • Clue

    16/08/2021 Duration: 59min

Whenever anyone asks me what my favorite comedy is, the first movie that is ever going to pop into my head is Clue. It may sound weird to think of a board game based film but Clue is bar none one of my favorite movies of all time. Luckily I know someone who feels the same! I sat down this week with a good friend of mine Allen Kesinger as we dissect and gush about maybe one of the most quotable movies of all time. We do our best to try and not recite the whole movie! With one of the best ensemble casts of all time, Clue is truly an underrated classic and a film that will absolutely stand the test of time. • Prometheus

    09/08/2021 Duration: 01h13min

Hello everyone and welcome to our first Defense of an actual film! When I started my last podcast, the movie that gave me the idea was Prometheus. I read the original leaked script (Alien Engineers) and that was the inception of the Shelved Film Podcast, so for me when putting this show together I felt it was appropriate that this would be the first film that I cover. Now normally my guest will be picking the movie but occasionally I will pick a film that I want to cover so this time I sat down with Jesse Ferguson and it was actually the first time they had seen the film. It lead to some interesting discussion about a movie that I really enjoy that comes with a sort of stigma. • Screened with Matthew Rorie

    02/08/2021 Duration: 01h16min

Welcome to the first official episode of Defending Your Movie. Now today's episode is a little different because we aren't actually talking about a movie. This is a chat with current Giant Bomb employee Matthew Rorie about his former job as one of the founding members of Screened. Screened was a film website that I was a major fan of and deep in the community. Defending Your Movie as a podcast is an homage to a video feature that started on Screened. For me, doing this podcast right meant having someone on who ran the site as a way to thank them and pay tribute to the content that they made which I hope to keep alive. Rorie was kind enough to come on the show and talk about his time on Screened and how it was kind of a fly by the seat of your pants operation. We also get into some fun movie chat in the back half. We will be getting to movies starting with episode 2 but for now I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane about a little movie website that could! • Zack Snyder's Justice League Review

    29/03/2021 Duration: 57min

Well it's a movie story unlike that which we've never seen before. Of course I mean more of the behind the scenes than the actual movie. A rare occasion in film, rarely do we ever get to see an alternate cut to a film, let alone one that has gotten so much attention. Today I invited Joe R. Khachadourian onto the show so we could review the talked about film of the year Zack Snyder's Justice League. Warner Bros finally released the Snydercut and we are going to find out if it was worth it or not! We are now on Patreon! • Alien 3 (William Gibson)

    22/02/2021 Duration: 53min

The Alien series is one of my favorite movie franchises of all time. Alien 3 is probably one of the more divisive films of the original three. It's on record how difficult the development of this movie was and how there were many different variations of the script. On today's episode we look at the most popular one by the father of cyberpunk, William Gibson. This script has been officially released as both a audio book and comic. Today is a look at the comic book version of Gibson's take on the famed creature feature. Written By: William Gibson Logline: After the deadly events of the film Aliens, the spaceship Sulaco carrying the sleeping bodies of Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop are intercepted by the Union of Progressive Peoples. What the U.P.P forces don't expect is another deadly passenger that is about to unleash chaos between two governmental titans intent on developing the ultimate cold war weapon of mass destruction. • Shocktober 2020: Psycho 2

    09/10/2020 Duration: 14min

I'm a massive Alfred Hitchcock fan and Psycho is one of my favorite films. The idea of making a sequel to that classic film twenty some odd years later is a fascinating concept to me. Does this much later sequel hold a candle to the original? "After twenty-two years of psychiatric care, Norman Bates attempts to return to a life of solitude, but the specters of his crimes - and his mother - continue to haunt him." • Shocktober 2020: The Invisible Man

    09/10/2020 Duration: 12min

Looking at another 2020 release today, Invisible Man is the next adaptation of one of the Universal Monster characters. After the failure that was the Tom Cruise The Mummy, Blumhouse takes a shot at a low budget take on one of the classic monsters. "When Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see." • Shocktober 2020: The Guest

    07/10/2020 Duration: 07min

The Guest was a movie that I was longing to see and always seemed to miss it when it was streaming. This year however the stars finally aligned and The Guest hit Netflix just when I needed it most. "A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence." • Shocktober 2020: Relic

    07/10/2020 Duration: 09min

Today's episode of Shocktober 2020 features the first movie that actually came out in 2020. Just one of the few that actually made it out this year. The trailer and reaction caught my attention, but is it a good horror film? "A daughter, mother and grandmother are haunted by a manifestation of dementia that consumes their family's home." • Shocktober 2020: Red State

    05/10/2020 Duration: 12min

I've been open about my love for Kevin Smith and his work, But Red State was one of his movies that had just missed me through the years. I had seen bits and pieces of Red State before but I've always wanted to get through the whole film, and Shocktober was the perfect excuse. "Set in Middle America, a group of teens receive an online invitation for sex, though they soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda." • Shocktober 2020: Don't Breathe

    05/10/2020 Duration: 10min

In the tradition of using Shocktober to check off movies that I missed, Don't Breathe is actually one of the first movies to make the cut. I really enjoyed The Evil Dead remake and this director blew me away so much that I knew I would watch any horror movie he made after.  "Hoping to walk away with a massive fortune, a trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man who isn't as helpless as he seems." • Shocktober 2020: Cargo

    03/10/2020 Duration: 11min

It's hard to cover a whole month of horror films and not review at least one zombie movie. A short film turned into a whole feature, Cargo at least takes a unique spin on the genre. The main horror here is time, rather than the zombies or desperate humans, although they are there too. "After an epidemic spreads all over Australia, a father searches for someone willing to protect his daughter." • Shocktober 2020: We Summon the Darkness

    03/10/2020 Duration: 08min

The second Shocktober movie for 2020 is a late 2019 addition. A film called We Summon the Darkness. It's not rare for heavy metal to sneak into a horror film, but is this movie metal enough? "Three best friends embark on a road trip to a heavy-metal show, where they bond with three aspiring musicians and head off to one of the girls' country home for an after-party." • Shocktober 2020: Ready or Not

    02/10/2020 Duration: 10min

I call it Shocktober (did not make that up to be clear!) Today we start with the first film of the month, the 2019 film Ready or Not. "A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game." • Kevin Smith's Green Hornet

    07/09/2020 Duration: 01h15min

This honestly may be one of my favorite episodes of the podcast. Today I sat down with comic writer Joe Khachadurian (Identity Stunt) as we discuss the Image comics release of Kevin Smith's script turned comic for The Green Hornet. Written by Smith originally for a movie that was never made, the script was eventually revived and transformed into a comic book. Today we talk about that comic book and what movie we could have gotten, and compare it to the Seth Rogen movie we eventually did get. Written By: Kevin Smith Logline: Following the death of his father, Britt Reid, heir to his father's large company, teams up with his late dad's assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team.
