Sonic Cartography and Creative Geography
21/04/2016 Duration: 43minThis week we take a break from interviews to go take a walk outside! We begin a series of episodes engaging with the multiplicity of ideas about field recordings, what they are, what they "document" and for whom. This episode features some big questions about the concept itself presented using some masterful recordings done by artists Flavian Gilli and Thijs Geritz (Istanbul) and two anonymous artists (Karaot Village, Torbali İzmir / Turkey Coffee House; Sonopoetic path, Maribor, Slovenia). Check the detailed show notes over at www.bansheemedia.com for links to these pieces over at Radio Aporee (aporee.org/maps) and well as a preview of coming show topics and media! While the episode sounds fine without headphones, we recommend for the binaural pieces at least you throw them on (unless you have misophonia, in which case you might want to skip the episode entirely... )

Regina Hansen talks Supernatural
14/04/2016 Duration: 48minIn this week's show we present another interview done live in Orlando, this time with author and scholar Regina Hansen on the television show Supernatural. We geek out about all things Winchester, reminisce about a musical monoculture that never was, and discover the beauty of acting even when there is no guarantee of success. For links to all the media featured in the podcast, check out the show notes at http://www.bansheemedia.com on the Sounds Curious page. We have further links to work by Regina Hansen, as well as selected media clips and links for further listening/reading. A big shout out once again to radio aporee (http://aporee.org/maps/) and all the field recording artists who upload their materials over there. Another big shout out to the Free Music Archive (http://freemusicarchive.org/) and all the artists who make their work available there as well. This week we'd particularly like to thank The Tudor Consort for their gorgeous recording of Giovanni Animuccia: Missa Victimae Paschali Laud

07/04/2016 Duration: 01h15minThis week we head down memory lane in Orlando with George Reid, who talks vintage video game music, fandom, nomadic subjectivities and nostalgia for times and places we've never been. We unabashedly indulge in the comforts of chiptune limitations, and the simple pleasure of limiting music to 4 channels with 1 dedicated to white noise. All original arrangements used in the episode by George himself, and available through his Soundcloud page over at: http://www.soundcloud.com/george-reid they include: https://soundcloud.com/george-reid/enya-orinoco-flow-8-bit-remix https://soundcloud.com/george-reid/reddwarf8bitcover https://soundcloud.com/george-reid/aquarium-fm-chiptune-demo https://soundcloud.com/george-reid/droid-romance We even have a full length bibliography for the show - if you want to do the reading, you can find many of the articles and books we mention at http://www.bansheemedia.com in the notes for the podcast. Alfred Surenyan and the Music of Star Wars
29/03/2016 Duration: 26minWelcome back to the second half of our first Sounds Curious Episode! We braved the flu, the wilds of rural China and urban Orlando, not to mention the fickle whims of Los Angeles internet providers to bring you the second half of our conversation with composer and musicologist Alfred Surenyan. More than a few problems with our Skype connection, but the conversation never faltered, winding through the history of film, composing for magic and ritual, opera, and more. More information on our guest can be found at http://www.alfredsurenyan.org as well as his music company, Pasha Music http://www.PashaMusic.com. He runs a great blog on these subjects as well - find that at http://pashamusic.wordpress.com More information on this episode and all our featured artists can also be found at the Banshee Media web page at http://www.bansheemedia.com

Pilot (Part 2)
10/03/2016 Duration: 31minFinally - the second half of the pilot episode for Sounds Curious! We split the pilot in two halves after hitting some serious technical difficulties - necessitating a complete upgrade of studio hardware and software halfway through an episode... FUN! Anyone who works with the arts and technology understands why we're sometimes reluctant to upgrade.... Anyway, lots of fun in this second half of the pilot. More musical tracks, including "Like Lisa" (check out the track on the banshee media soundcloud page, or over at http://www.reneetcoulombe.com) A big thank you to the folks over at http://www.aporee.org/maps, and radio aporee, for hosting so many incredible field recordings that we are addicted to! Today's is by Jeremy Hegge, and is called "Leaving our microphones by a waterhole at night" and was recorded at Mmabolela Reserve, Limpopo, South Africa. Recording made during the 'Sonic Mmabolela' residency organized by Francisco Lopez and James Webb. My apologies for mis-stating that it was Mozambique
