Our colloquial store opens Tuesday at 7pm with the following items...ahem, issues available for purchase: after a 20 year deliberation, Mattel finally decides to release the Marty McFly hoverboard used in the Back to The Future franchise; although famed (or is that hack?) director, Michael Bay is slated to return to the Transformers franchise in 2014, the word "reboot" has been tossed around for the film's fourth installment; DC experiments with an alternative Superman (of color) in an upcoming issue of Action Comics; JJ Abrams' Alcatraz continues to shine with high ratings and sprinkles of comic book shout-outs; the UK version of Being Human returns for a fourth season; our thoughts on Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men and lastly, our favorite graphic novel picks from the previous weeks.

Well, here we are again, with the untimely passing of an icon, Whitney Houston. We, here at Afronerd.com and AfronerdRadio.com send our sincerest condolences to friends, family and fans of this truly legendary artist. Daryll B, Captain Kirk and Dburt will be discussing the following pop and pulp flavored issues: continuing from last week's show-rumor has it that Spiderman (a Sony cinematic property) may make an an appearance in the Avengers (the rights belong to Marvel/Disney); for our infamous versus segment, Superhero based comics versus alternate genre comics (Western, Horror, Crime, Sci-Fi, etc) which format pushes the industry further?; a tidbit concerning a new Xbox video gaming system (tentatively called The Loop) slated for a fourth quarter release; a brief retrospective on the history of African-American depictions/characters in mainstream comics; as expected a REAL Ben 10 movie is in the works; the upcoming superhero/sci-fi flick, Chronicle has an interesting viral campaign that includes flying people; Jim Jarmusch is making a new vampire film and lastly, our favorite comic book reads from the previous week.

The topics to be discussed are: a continuation of some of last week's issues that were left on our table of colloquium (i.e. the passing of Etta James, Jimmy Castor and Johnny Otis, Julian Assange's TV venture, 50 cent & Chelsea Handler); Adult Swim's new The Eric Andre Show is a gabfest that features hosts of color; an advertisement depicting an interracial couple causes outrage in post apartheid South Africa; French Elle magazine is in hot water for an article describing the Obamas' fashion sense as "Black-geoisie"; and lastly, in the world of science and tech-engineers create robots that can play catch and a Huffington Post article waxes on what extraterrestrial life might really look like.
