2 Corinthians 2:12-3:18 In order to experience spiritual renewal, we need to focus on Jesus, not Jesus+. In a world of temporary things, it's only the Word and work of the Lord that stands in permanence. Some things that can veil the work of God are 1) competition with worldly promotions, 2) personality driven ministry, 3) attaching the Gospel to political ideologies. The health of a church is measured by the depth of its desire for Jesus. That brings the hope of renewal. Ecclesiastes 4 As we continue the study of Ecclesiastes, we see the author pointing out that lives of oppression, envy, and radical individualism are all meaningless. He then points out that God's intention is for us to be together with Him and with one another. We then see how the early church sought to follow Jesus in a broken world, and are challenged to pray that our church will follow their example. Ecclesiastes 3 Through this third chapter we see: 1) everything has it's time, 2) God will eventually make everything beautiful, 3) we have a hard time understanding God, 4) He is sovereign. Ecclesiastes 2 As we continue the search for life's meaning, we move on to chapter 2 of Ecclesiastes. The author lists the endless amount of possessions and positions he has, and concludes that they are all meaningless without God, since we can't take them with us when we pass. Ecclesiastes 1 We begin a new series based on Ecclesiastes, entitled "Searching for the Meaning of Life". As the author reflects on that question, he finds that life is meaningless if based on the routines, memories and wisdom of the world.
