  • 109 Barbara De Vito: CranioSacral Therapy The Healing Touch

    25/11/2020 Duration: 20min

In this episode of Alternative Health Tools, we learn that CranioSacral Therapy is a potential antidote to several ailments that are unfortunately trending as a result of the stresses and strains of the Covid Era.  “I see a lot of people with chronic pain, headache, facial pain, neck pain, back pain, stress,” says Barbara DeVito, a San Diego-based therapist. “I see three times as much anxiety, depression, and sleep problems than I have in the past. And I do believe it has to do with what people are going through right now — lots of fear. And that can set in the body.”  CranioSacral Therapy addresses such complaints through gentle manipulation that releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. “The body and the mind work together,” says DeVito. “Once the mind is relaxed, the body starts relaxing. Once the body is relaxed, the mind starts relaxing.” The primary area of focus in CST is from the shoulders up. “There's a lot of work on their head and in the occiput [back of th

So make plans for how you’re going to celebrate when it’s over. Create wholesome routines. John, in California, takes a walk-and-talk every morning with Stephanie, who’s in Santa Fe. They get the benefits of relationships, exercise, nature, and conversation. Walking a dog has similar health/mental health benefits. But even if you don’t have a dog, routinely take walks. Create family Zoom meetups. Play games. Laugh. Have a dance party, complete with costumes. Too much screen time creating eyestrain and causing headaches? Get some blue-light filter glasses. Do whatever it is that you consider a spiritual practice. Meditations. Deep breathing exercises. Yoga. Journaling.  Look or sit outside. Check out the

  • 107 Fay McGrew: Good Medicine for Covid Era

    05/11/2020 Duration: 50min

When the collective mind, body, and spirit are under siege by a microscopic virus, individuals are prone to fear, anxiety, and stress - all of which work to the virus’s advantage by suppressing the immune system. According to Qigong teacher Fay McGrew, her practice addresses key physiological and emotional issues that enhance people's abilities to deal with the onslaught of our unseen enemy.  “Qigong Is not just an exercise,” says McGrew. It includes mindfulness meditation, nutrition, and various aspects of Chinese medicine, including acupressure. And because the exercises involved are low-impact, the practice is accessible regardless of age or physical condition. McGrew says Qigong is effective in treating veterans suffering from PTSD or even brain injuries. Qigong is well suited for the current era because of its emphasis on diaphragmatic breathing. “That's the number one thing is for relaxing our lungs, getting enough oxygen. If we do get COVID, we know it hits the lungs.”  The breathing exercises also pro

  • 106 Team Concepts

    27/10/2020 Duration: 28min

In these times of global pandemic, learning about Alternative Health Tools just might be more important than ever before. Conventional medicine obviously does not have all the answers to the mental and physical health issues and challenges posed by the Coronavirus.  With the recent addition of Kim Shea, who joins John Biethan and Lisa Victoria as a co-host, the Alternative Health Tools team expands its reach to wellness practitioners we haven’t heard from over the first 100-plus episodes.  In this, the first meeting of the minds between Kim and Lisa, we learn about the work they’re doing and what impact they hope to have on listeners. Kim calls herself a coach for life’s third period, and we heard from her about that in Episode 104. Lisa is an intuitive health coach and her ultimate goal going forward is “inspiring people to think and feel differently about who they are, to be able to go out into the world and find that true voice and that true passion and not be held back and playing small.” Stay tuned to Li

  • 105 Leea Pronovost: Take The Shamanic Journey

    15/10/2020 Duration: 46min

Leea Pronovost suffered a near-death experience that awakened her, in middle age, to healing modalities that may sound exotic to some: Crystal Reiki, Energy Mastery, and Shamanic Healing. But her practice comes into focus as she walks host Kim Shea through a guided meditation. By the end of this session, it sounds like Kim is packing her psychic baggage to go on a Shamanic Journey with Leea. Perhaps you will be, too. Trauma, of course, is usually the trigger for the spiritual healing quest, and Leea calls herself a specialist in “soul retrieval.” “When you can't deal with the trauma,” she says, “that piece of your soul goes missing, or you’re creating a way to be because of that trauma. In soul retrieval, we basically go back and see what caused that trauma and then go in and tear up that contract that we created, and create a new contract with ourselves. “In Shamanism,” Leea says, “it isn't so much that the shaman is a healer, but the shaman holds space for you to heal yourself.” Leea’s repertoire includes d

  • 104 Kim Shea: Coaching for Life’s Third Period

    29/09/2020 Duration: 38min

Retirement ain’t what it used to be. Because we live longer, it lasts longer, and Baby Boomers are wired to remain active and engaged well after their careers are over. There’s no map for this new stage of life, and that’s where Kim Shea comes in. Her business is called Aging Purposefully, and she calls herself a retirement coach and a purposeful living coach. “My goal,” she says, “is to help people figure out how they can best spend their retirement years doing what it is that makes him feel like they have a reason to still be here every day.”  “My ideal client would be somebody who's 55 or 60 and still has about five years left before they're ready to retire because then we can start to explore some things like what their hobbies are, where they want to live, what their main interests are so that when they do actually retire, it's a very smooth transition.” That could mean laying the groundwork for a side-gig in semi-retirement. Or digging deep to assess what your spiritual or social or intellectual needs a

Dr. Moodley treats a wide variety of diseases and conditions and recommends Ayurveda even for those who feel healthy, as preventative medicine that promotes longevity and quality of life. “It's about putting those building blocks in place now,” she says, “to make sure we live long and healthy rather than long and unhealthy.” She refers in the interview to original Ayurvedic medical texts, which are still used in the contemporary study of this ancient practice.  Remarkably, Dr. Moodley

Jan Tucker is a certified trainer and healer in the Spring Forest Qigong lineage. She came to the art of qigong, a movement practice similar to tai chi, to treat her chronic bronchitis and a failing immune system. Her Chinese master said, “This works like acupuncture without the needles. … it works with universal love energy.” The healing takes place by removing blockages in the human energy system and aligning with natural yin-yang dynamics. Jan applies the healing touch manually, and also works with patients remotely, with success. Qigong addresses emotional and mental health issues, like stress, as well as physical ailments and conditions.  By boosting the immune system, she says it can help with the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic. “If you believe in qigong, it works. And if you don't believe in it, it works anyway … because we're working with universal laws here.” Is qigong right for you? Jan asks her prospective clients these questions: Do you have a chronic and persistent illness? Are you h

  • 097 Relationship By Design: Parents Outside The Trap

    01/06/2020 Duration: 09min

John here from San Diego in the US. Lisa’s in the U.K. It’s my turn for an episode. I’ve been working with Lon and Sandy Golnick from Relationship By Design for about a year and a half. They know more about relationship than anyone I’ve ever met in my gazillion years studying human potential and development. So one of my favorites take-aways from this work is this: “You can’t fix a relationship - because it’s not broken. You probably just don’t know what a relationship is! As you become aware of what a relationship is, things simply clear up.” That’s refreshing. Doing their workshops, I found this to be absolutely useful and true. So in a short conversation here, I discovered that they’ve worked a lot with families and parents. What we bring you here today are insights into being a parent - and NOT parenting. It’s called Parents: Outside The Trap. For more information, visit RelationshipByDesign.com. • 093 Lindsay Banks: Reiki and Alternative Healing To Relieve Stress

    22/04/2020 Duration: 38min

In this episode, we explore different ways of healing the mind and body with Reiki, distance healing, journaling, practicing gratitude and mindfulness. Lindsay Banks “Having gone through my own spiritual awakening back in 2017 I now support others through theirs. My own awakening was triggered through the loss of my best friend to cancer, shortly followed by the collapse of my marriage. I didn’t felt like I was being true to me anymore. I had become emotionally numb to life. In order to get through it, I utilized every tool I had in my spiritual toolbox. I had read about mindfulness, meditation but wasn’t practicing it. I started to meditate, to connect with myself again. Speaking with Angels, using crystals, practicing Reiki on myself. I did what I could to get me through a difficult, dark time. And I did get through it. When I did I put these tools into a book so others could utilize them to help them on their path. A Gentle Hug for the Soul was born in Oct 2018.” Contact Lindsay Banks LindsayBanks.uk Twit
