I joined David Greene on NPR's Morning Edition to discuss whether the "Trump Effect" would outlast his campaign, what it could and should look like, and what that might mean for American politics. 

Conservative intellectuals suffer from Stockholm Syndrome - the feelings of empathy, even support hostages sometimes have for their captors, in this case the political Left. And the result is a sycophantic need to be liked and accepted by those who would do the country harm. But, as these same intellectuals are wont to say, ideas have consequences. And those consequences are primarily felt by ordinary Americans. 

#NeverTrump Republicans are already looking past the election and are positioning themselves to return to business as usual. A spate of opinion pieces have appeared in the past few days from NeverTrumpers like Erick Erickson, David French, Robert Kagan, and others all assuming Trump loses & that they will regain control of the GOP. Ben Boychuk, managing editor of American Greatness, joins me & we discuss the errors they continue to make & how the GOP will change.

Dr. Tevi Troy joins us today to unpack the first presidential debate and explain what most pundits missed and what effect it is likely to have on the election.  Dr. Troy is a presidential historian, author of the just released Shall We Wake The President, who was a top aide to President George W. Bush, and the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Healthy and Human Services. He is also a longtime friend and one of the funniest people I know. 

Decius returns in a tour de force describing the election in as do or die.    2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You—or the leader of your party—may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees. Except one: if you don't try, death is certain. To compound the metaphor: a Hillary Clinton presidency is Russian Roulette with a semi-auto. With Trump, at least you can spin the cylinder and take your chances.

Dr. R.R. Reno, editor of First Things, joins us again to talk about the idea of a Christian society - what is means and why it's good for Christians and non-Christians alike.  Reno is quick to point out that separating religion from politics is a Christian idea.  His new book, Resurrecting the Idea of a Christian Society is must reading for anyone serious about either politics or Christianity.
