Bridging The Gap

 If you were with us last time, you know we began a study of First Kings chapter nineteen. Today we’re going to hear the conclusion of the message, and to set the scene for you, things have gotten so bad for Elijah he actually asked God to let him die! But God isn’t through with Elijah, as we’ll find out today. 

As we look at the book of First Kings today, we see a nation in decline. Yet God never turned His back on His people. Much like those days of old, the world we live in today is on a spiritual decline, wouldn’t you agree? The grace of God is unchanging and always available for those who will put their faith in Him.

Today’s topic on Bridging the Gap is the Holy Spirit, and how we must yield to Him in order for Him to work effectively in our lives. There have been heated debates over the years concerning the Holy Spirit, but I think if you’ll stick with us today, much of that controversy will be solved. 

We will be talking about the Holy Spirit today, and the important role He plays in our every day lives. As misunderstood and underestimated as the Holy Spirit is, we can never spend too much time getting to know Him, and what He can do when we utilize His incredible power. To use the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives is to submit to His power. That’s not necessarily something we’re good at, so let’s look to  Ephesians chapter five for help.

Today Lloyd continues his new series called “Basic Christian Living”, by sharing a message on prayer. When you talk about the basics of our Christian walk, prayer is certainly part of the list, right? I guess when you break prayer down to it’s bare essence, what we’re doing is talking with God. But as with so many other parts of our relationship with God, there is a right way and a wrong way to pray. 

As one wise person once said, The worst day with Jesus is better than the best day with anyone else. As Christians, we may not always be happy, but we will always have that true joy that is found only in Christ Jesus.

Paul did not seek money or fame by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He did so with a pure and loving heart. That’s a good example of basic Christian living!

Christian suffering will be the topic today, here on Bridging the Gap. Suffering comes in all shapes and sizes for the Christian, but when it occurs it is helpful to keep our eyes on what awaits us in the end. 

Rejoice in suffering?   Is that really possible?  Sounds far fetched, doesn’t it?  But, today on Bridging the Gap, Lloyd Pulley will show us that suffering has purpose, and if you understand what the purpose is, you have good reason to rejoice.

Today we will bring you another message from pastor Lloyd’s series titled “Basic Christian Living”.  In the final two verses of Romans chapter five, Paul reminds the Roman Christians of the power and might of God’s wonderful grace.

As we study John’s gospel, we’re in chapter fifteen, where Jesus talks about abiding in God’s love. The world is going to be against you, the moment you declare your allegiance to Christ.

 We’ve just begun a series titled “Basic Christian Living", and today we will be in John fifteen. In this chapter, Jesus explains to His apostles the nature of His relationship with the Father and, in doing so, reveals the ideal relationship between the Father and us.

Today we bring you part two of a message Lloyd began last time, concerning the second coming of Jesus Christ. We are living in the end times. I'm sure you've heard someone say that. How do we know? How do we know that the return of Jesus is just around the corner?

In all of human history, there has been one single event that bridged the gap between God and man, and it was the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross that we have been redeemed from our helplessly sinful lives. It’s depressing to think where we would be as a people, if it were not for that sacrifice.

A pair of sisters named Mary and Martha will again be in the spotlight as we consider the second and third encounter they had with Jesus. Their brother, Lazarus, died. Jesus came along and raised him from the dead. And later on, Mary anointed the Lord’s feet with an expensive bottle of perfume

 Jesus had three encounters with a pair of sisters named Mary and Martha. We’ll take a look at all three, and we’ll begin with the night Jesus came to dinner. Martha was hectically running around making sure the house was in perfect order, and the meal was cooked just right. On the other hand, Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet. Who was doing the right thing? 

Sin created an infinite barrier between man and God, but no man-made bridge could come close to spanning the distance. That’s why we need Jesus.He built a bridge with His cross - and it was more than sufficient.  It truly is the bridge of God! Today we’ll finish up our Good Friday message from pastor Lloyd Pulley, as we head into Easter weekend.

 We’re going to be in the gospel of Mark,  chapter seven today, as we continue Lloyd’s series called “Jesus and the Individual”. Today we’ll once again concern ourselves with two things that go together - faith and healing
