Crime Fighters

Running from 1951 through 1955, Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator is about a New York private eye. Produced in New York from 1951 to 1954 and then moved it to Hollywood where it aired from 1954 to 1955.  This entertaining old time radio series originally titled "Barry Crane" was later renamed "Barrie Craig."

For the most part, actors who appeared in B-films were featured, but occasionally, one of MGM's major stars would make an appearance. The radio series aired in New York on WMGM (October 10, 1949-October 10, 1951) and then moved to the Mutual network (January 7-December 22, 1952). Actors included Bela Lugosi, Everett Sloane, Ed Begley, John Loder and Lionel Stander.

The Man In Black,Between 1943 and 1955, BBC Radio produced one of its most famous horror series, "Appointment With Fear". It was presented by Valentine Dyall (above), an actor who had made his radio debut in 1936 as The Man In Black, a creepy raconteur who picked up news of the spooky bits of life. In sepulchral voice, he introduced the story, made comments afterwards and sometimes provided short narrative links. In 1949 The Man In Black was awarded a series of his own, called "The Man In Black", with a very similar format to Appointment With Fear. This included such stories as R. L. Stevenson's Markheim and M. R. James's classic Whistle and I'll Come To You.
