  • The sneaky emotion we need to tap for (Pod #530)

    04/05/2022 Duration: 12min

One of the characteristics I most love about my clients is their capacity for compassion and their awareness of the suffering and struggles of others. Because this is the case, my clients are helpers and healers to others. And this is a wonderful thing! At the same time, when we are aware of the suffering of others, we have a tendency to shortchange our own transformation. We end up saying things like "I have it so much better than other people." But just because we are more fortunate than many others doesn't mean that we have to shortchange our transformation or feel selfish because we are taking care of ourselves. The reality is if you feel (consciously or subconsciously) you are being selfish by trying to heal, then you will sabotage any efforts to create healing and transformation in your life. In this week's podcast I am sharing a tap-along I did with one of the participants in the ID Transformation Retreat. During our follow-up sessions, a week after the retreat, one of the participants shared how selfi

  • Releasing the struggle of transformation (Pod #529)

    28/04/2022 Duration: 16min

Last Saturday I ran the *ID Transformation Retreat". Over the course of the day we had the opportunity to heal and release many past ideas and beliefs that we have about ourselves. As the day was drawing to a close, I gave everyone the chance to ask any lingering questions. Here is what one of the participants shared: I'm feeling a lot of emotions today. I feel like some of it is related to the tool about letting things go. I have recognized that I have all that I need within me to be the type of person I want to be. I feel like a lot of the emotions today were letting go of my old self. AND there's a lot of grief about that. All day long there have been so many emotions and I just wanted to ask about any advice you have for dealing with this outflow of emotion. My response was the tapping session I am sharing with you today. We tapped for letting go of our past selves, honoring who we were in the past, acknowledging the change we want, and accepting the change we are going through. The tapping was powerf

  • 5 ways to set up every tapping session for success (Pod #528)

    13/04/2022 Duration: 54min

Although you can learn tapping in just a few minutes, it can take a lifetime to uncover all the subtle nuances in its application. Over the course of years of doing thousands of tapping sessions with clients, I have learned that there are few simple steps we can take at the beginning of a session to make the healing process quicker and smoother. A few weeks ago I gave a presentation at the Spring Energy Event on 5 simple things that you can do to begin a tapping session to get the most out of it. This week's podcast is that presentation. • How to tap when you hit emotional rock bottom UPDATE (Pod #527)

    30/03/2022 Duration: 14min

Tapping is an amazing tool that can help us to turn our mood around when we are going through a rough patch. It can also be powerful enough to clear out deeply rooted traumas and limiting beliefs. When tapping for these types of issues the approach is fairly straightforward. Sometimes we are too close to the issue to tap effectively on our own and then the help of a skill tapping practitioner can be invaluable. Even when this happens, the process of the work itself is easy to understand. There are other times where we just don't know where to start, such as when we hit rock bottom emotionally. This is way more than a low mood or a couple of challenging days. Hitting rock bottom means feeling overwhelmed by negative emotions, and any relief provided by tapping is fleeting. In this week's podcast I share a straightforward four-step process you can use when you hit one of these patches. It's a useful process for rough times in general, but particularly potent when you are in despair and feel unable to bounce bac

  • The step most people skip when tapping (Pod #526)

    16/03/2022 Duration: 08min

If you are in any way familiar with tapping, then you have repeatedly heard how important it is to get to the root cause of an issue. The thinking is that by finding and dealing with the root cause, we will be able to take care of the whole issue. Much like if you kill the roots of a plant, the entire plant will wilt and die. This teaching makes perfect sense but I think most people make a critical error when trying to implement it. And that mistake is that they focus only on the root cause, to the exclusion of everything else. I believe there is an essential step we should take before diving into the root cause. Adding this step means we can clear root causes more quickly AND enjoy longer lasting results. In this week's podcast I talk about what I believe is a key step to transformation and how you can implement it in your own tapping work right away. Support the podcast! • What to do when you are frustrated by your slow rate of progress and transformation (Pod #525)

    24/02/2022 Duration: 13min

One of the foundational beliefs of the work I do is that every part of our system is working for our highest good. Even when the system isn't working perfectly, we can appreciate its intention is that we are healthy and safe. For example, the part of me that is preventing me from talking about the work I do for a living is trying to help me avoid rejection, even though intellectually I know that not talking about my work will hinder my success. I know the approach isn't helpful, but I can appreciate why the resistance exists. This is great except when we are unsure why the resistance is holding us back. Recently, I was tapping on an issue with the phrase "I appreciate that this resistant part of my system is trying to keep me healthy, even though the way it is going about it is actually holding me back." Before I even finished saying the phrase, another part of my system spoke up in what can only be described as a profanity-laced tantrum about how "No! It doesn't appreciate the resistance. AND the only reason

  • Tapping for when you feel out of control (Pod #524)

    26/01/2022 Duration: 16min

Feeling out of control is one of the hardest emotions to overcome. This is true whether we feel personally out of control or if our circumstances feel that way. The reality is that we are surrounded by things we do not control every single day, but we cope by recognizing that even though we don't control everything, we control enough to get what we want. This week's podcast explores why the subconscious mind responds the way it does when we are feeling out of control and, more importantly, how to release that feeling. In the podcast I teach what you can do to prepare for situations that feel out of control and how tapping can help when you find yourself feeling out of control. • Tapping to release your old identities (Pod #523)

    12/01/2022 Duration: 13min

As humans we are constantly changing and evolving. Sometimes this happens gently over a long passage of time. At other times major events in our lives cause us to see ourselves and the world in new ways. Even as this change is happening, our subconscious mind clings to the definitions of who we were and how the world was. It does this because the subconscious mind is most comfortable when the world is consistent and predictable. The subconscious perceives change as unpredictable and therefore dangerous. For that reason, the unconscious mind is slow to catch up when we change our definitions of ourselves. This means that even when we change how we see ourselves, our actions don't always match the new version of ourselves. This week's podcast explores how we can tap to release outdated definitions of ourselves so that our actions can match who we are today. • Tapping for when you don't feel like you belong (Pod #522)

    08/12/2021 Duration: 14min

Sometimes we spend time with people whose lives are very different from our own. They might have different jobs, make more money than us, have success or notoriety, or access to opportunities that we will never have. When this happens it is so easy to feel like we don't belong. It can even undermine our confidence and sense of self-worth. This week's podcast explores how we can respond to these kinds of situations and includes a tap-along to help you feel more secure and boost your self-esteem. • It's not what you say when tapping, but how you say it (Pod $521)

    24/11/2021 Duration: 10min

The most common question I receive from my readers and listeners is "What are the best phrases for [insert issue] when tapping?" The reality is there are no magic phrases, only ones that are useful or not. At the same time, there is something that is often overlooked when tapping. For tapping to be the most effective it is less about the words you use and more about your focus. In this week's podcast I explore how we can tune in to issues in a way that will lead to optimal results and how you can easily incorporate this in your tapping. Support the podcast! • Why you constantly put the needs of others before your own (and how to stop) (Pod #520)

    03/11/2021 Duration: 15min

One of the reasons that I love the tapping community is because it is filled with so many thoughtful and caring people. These are people who want to make the world a better place and often are willing to go above and beyond to care for others. At the same time, this can also be problematic because constantly taking care of everyone else means we have a tendency to put ourselves last. AND in some cases it is worse than putting ourselves last. Sometimes we completely forget our own needs and aren't doing anything at all to take care of ourselves. In the last few weeks I have come to an interesting revelation as to why this happens. This episode of the podcast explores this issue and what we can do about it. • Tapping for Toxic Kindness (Pod #519)

    13/10/2021 Duration: 12min

It is odd to think about the word toxic being associated with kindness, but I have noticed a growing conversation around the idea of "toxic kindness". Toxic kindness can be described as encouragement in a difficult time that actually makes you feel worse. For example, when you are having an emotionally challenging time and people tell you "Don't worry! Everything is going to work out just fine." On one level that looks as if it is encouraging. At the same time it can also feel like your emotions are being dismissed. I'm sure that the intention behind this sort of encouragement is good, but when we are in the middle of something hard, it doesn't feel helpful. Instead it can feel like our friends lack empathy OR that they don't think our feelings are valid. Rather than the term toxic kindness, I like to call this kindhearted incompetence. Here is a simple tap-along to help you when it feels like people aren't understanding your emotions or situation. Support the podcast! Subscribe in: Apple | Android | Spoti

  • Tapping for difficult decisions (Pod #518)

    30/09/2021 Duration: 12min

Even when we have all the available information, it can still be hard to make important choices because few choices are 100% clearcut, without any uncertainty. It's possible that something with a 99 out of 100 chance of working still might not work out. This is particularly true when it comes to making choices related to our health. Modern science has given us more knowledge about the human body at this moment in history than we have ever had before, yet there is so much that remains unknown. Sometimes our well-informed choices still leave space for uncertainty. Here is a simple tap-along to help you when you are feeling overwhelmed by having to make a choice in a time of uncertainty. • Understand Neuroplasticity To Transform Anxiety With Tapping w/ Dr. Kim D'Eramo (Pod #517)

    16/09/2021 Duration: 34min

I am completely fascinated by the concept of neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is a term that refers to the ability of our brains to adapt to our environment and change with experience. That means that the brain's neurological pathways aren't set in stone, but are flexible and can be reshaped. One one level we already understand this. We know that we can stop old habits (like smoking) and create new ones (like tapping). At the same time, it wasn't until the 1960s that there was scientific proof that we could actually change our brains. I find this really exciting for two reasons. First, it means that we aren't stuck! We can change the way we see ourselves, see the world and, most importantly, change the way we feel. Second, it makes me want to tap even more because it means I'm not just changing how I feel in the moment, it's also possible to make change at a neurological level that is lasting. In this week's podcast my friend Dr. Kim D'Eramo and I discuss the relationship between neuroplasticity and the proce

  • SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Two new podcasts from Gene Monterastelli

    10/09/2021 Duration: 14min

Over the last few months I have been doing a lot of work on restructuring my business and reorganizing all of my content. This is a consequence of all the ways in which Tapping Q & A has changed and how I have evolved personally. To make it easier for everyone to find the types of content that they are looking for I have created two new podcasts in addition to the Tapping Q & A Podcast. Tapping Q & A Podcast: The Tapping Q & A Podcast will continue to focus on tapping. Its main focus will be on slightly more advanced and provocative tapping concepts. There will be a lot less tapping 101 content and much more on mastering the art of delivering tapping in a more effective way. First Action, Best Action: One of the types of work I enjoy the most is helping people to eliminate self-sabotage so that they can take the most valuable actions over and over again and achieve their goals. In doing this work I have come to realize that taking the best actions isn't just about organizing your to-do list we

  • What is somatic literacy and why is it essential to healing? (Pod #516)

    19/08/2021 Duration: 15min

Our bodies are giving us information all day long. We feel pain when we are injured, our stomach rumbles when we are hungry, and we feel butterflies when we are nervous, to name a few examples. But just because our bodies are sending us signals does not mean that we are paying attention or interpreting the signals correctly. The ability to understand what the body is saying to us is often called "somatic literacy". In this week's podcast I share with you four ways in which you can improve your somatic literacy. By doing this you will: Understand the messages your body is sending you Be able to respond to these messages so that you can be healthier Get better at hearing your body's messages and do it consistently Improving your somatic literacy will make it easier for you to heal and transform because you have a clearer sense of the issues you are facing. • Your System Does Not Have An Agenda (Pod #515)

    04/08/2021 Duration: 22min

It sometimes feels like your body is letting you down. No matter what you try, healing doesn't happen. This can lead to frustration and disappointment to the point where you feel like you are fighting your body and yourself. In this week's podcast we explore three keys to understanding how our body and our overall system function. This simple understanding will give you the ability to understand what is going on in your system and, much more importantly, provides an insight as to what you should tap on. Support the podcast! • Why I'm OK with bad choices (Pod #514)

    21/07/2021 Duration: 14min

Tapping is a wonderful tool that can help us to feel better in the moment, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as emotional first aid. As much as I love emotional first aid, I find tapping's ability to help us to clear fear and resistance so that we make better, more thoughtful choices even more impressive. If I am consistently able to make more choices that are congruent with my authentic self, then I am much less likely to be overwhelmed by emotions in the first place. Emotional first aid is perfect for the moment. Clearing resistance and limiting beliefs sets me up for an easier, happier future. With all that being said, I actually like making bad choices. And I don't mean that in a "I learn more from my failure than my successes" sort of way. I do think mistakes are a powerful way to learn, but that's not what I mean here. I believe that making bad choices with no lesson to be learned has some interesting benefits. But only in a certain context. This week I share with you how I make bad choices, why I

  • The Root Cause Of Almost Every Issue Is... (Pod #513)

    07/07/2021 Duration: 14min

In order to get the most out of a tapping session we know that the more specific we are about an issue, the faster we will get results. In more than a decade of working with clients I have come to realize that 95% of all issues have the exact same core issue. In this week's podcast I share what that core issue is, the best way to uncover it (it only takes two questions), and how you can tap for that issue. • How To Speed Up The Healing Process (Pod #512)

    24/06/2021 Duration: 12min

We have all heard the old saying that "hindsight is 20/20 vision" because it is so much easier to look back and see how we could have done things differently from the vantage point of the present. When this happens we can end up judging ourselves very harshly. The problem with this type of evaluation is we are judging our past self with new knowledge. It's easy to think "What on earth was I thinking?! It is so clear that was the wrong choice to make!" when in reality we were doing the best we could with the knowledge and information we had at the time of the choice. In this week’s podcast I share a fresh approach you can take when evaluating your past choices and use it to guide you towards more effective healing.
