Drowsy Driving is Deadly. A truck driver recently was convicted of vehicular manslaughter. He was not driving while impaired from alcohol or drugs. He was not driving erratic or reckless. His guilt? He was driving while tired. To put it simple, he should have been in bed instead of driving a tractor trailer that night. Driving drowsy is a term used in the courts when the driver of any vehicle fails to take themselves off the road due to being tired beyond safe driving. This pertains to not only CL drivers but also the motoring public. You are the captain of your ship and you must maintain it safely. He faces up to 7 years in prison when sentenced this coming week. Can the FMCSA be this Dumb. The FMCSA is asking questions about the autonomous industry. They want the publics opinion on certain questions. Questions like, should a remote driver be subject to drug screen testing? LOL, my answer is, DUH! I mean what kind of question are they asking? I mean, why would you not drug screen anyone that is in charge of the motion of a big rig? Grandma's Toe is Broke I can't come to Work. Trucking say this is one of the biggest excuse, to not come to work. They hear it all the time. A driver is scheduled for orientation and then the excuses start coming in. The most common excuse is granny. That's right, poor old granny is sick" or my grandma died" but you can sure bet, granny will always be the most common excuse to get out of work. Instead of making up an excuse, why don't you jus tell the company, you found a better fit for you? They would have more respect for you if you would come clean and be honest. The Economy in Trucking. A year ago, small trucking companies were begging to buy trucks. The demand was so high, the dealerships were marking up semi's $30,000 to $40,000. It was disgusting but if you wanted a truck, you were going to pay. Troy was constantly saying, wait till the economy flips and you will see allot of repo's. Well here we are and dealerships, Penske and Ryder's yards are filled with big rigs, for sale and for rent. What happened you ask? Truckers came back to work and brokers were no longer desperate to get their freight hauled. Mix that with major shortages because of weak assembly lines, high fuel and a big down turn in the economy and you have repo's, bankruptcies and a panic in the air. Would you at least call their company to alert them about the comb-an y truck? Most would not help. In fact, most don’t even think about it as they drive on by. Here’s another question. Would you help a trucker if you were also a trucker? Would you still help if your company y had a zero tolerance rule that states, “No stopping on the side of the road?”  We put it to the test.
