Family Of a Vet is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and their families learn how to cope with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), TBI (traumatic brain injury) and life after combat through real-world, plain language education and resources for heroes, families, and communities.

    Join Family of a Vet Blog Talk Radio show host Debbie Sprague for a moving interview with Howard and Jean Somers.  You may be familiar with their son, Daniel Somers.  He was a CA Army National Guardsman who returned to civilian life from the Iraq war as many of our warriors do, suffering from invisible wounds.  For Daniel it was not only Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury, but also Gulf War Syndrome.  His transition to civilian life ended June 10, 2013 when he took his own life, unable to cope any longer with multi-system health issues. Howard and Jean have made it their mission to address the multiple barriers that kept Daniel from receiving the proper treatment he so desperately needed.  In that process, the Somers hope to ensure that no other veteran or family suffers as theirs have.The Somers have received an invitation to testify at the House Committee on Veterans Affairs on July 10, 2014 in an open session to conduct an oversight hearing on the provision of mental health care to veteran pa
