Genesis 17 — The Son of Promise and the Circumcision of the Heart I. God’s everlasting covenant with Abraham promised to provide the inclusion of a multitude of believers from the Gentile nations. [Genesis 17:1-8] II. Circumcision has never been a condition for salvation but rather serves as an outward sign for the set apart household of God. [Genesis 17:9-14] III. Circumcision of the flesh means absolutely nothing without the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit and the circumcision of the heart. [Deuteronomy 30:1-6, Romans 2:25-29] IV. Isaac is a prophetic shadow picture of Jesus in that he was conceived supernaturally as the beloved son of his father — the seed of the woman and son of promise — through which God would redeem the world.
