Synopsis

Roderick Main works at the University of Essex, UK, where he is a professor in the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies and Director of the Centre for Myth Studies. He has an MA in Classics from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Religious Studies from Lancaster University. His research explores relationships between depth psychology, religion, myth, and modernity, with a particular focus on the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung and especially Jung’s concept of synchronicity. Roderick’s publications include The Rupture of Time: Synchronicity and Jung’s Critique of Modern Western Culture (Brunner-Routledge, 2004), Revelations of Chance: Synchronicity as Spiritual Experience (SUNY, 2007), Jung on Synchronicity and the Paranormal (Routledge/Princeton, 1997), and Myth, Literature, and the Unconscious (Karnac, 2013). He is currently leading a two-year research project titled “‘One world’: logical and ethical implications of holism” funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK.
