Synopsis

Over one billion people. Around forty percent of the world's population. That's how many were in front of their television sets 34 years ago today, July 13th 1985 to watch Live Aid. Billed as the "global jukebox", the biggest names in pop and rock were part of concerts held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Broadcast worldwide for just over 16 hours, the Live Aid concert became the most-watched event in television history. In this episode of DISCovery, you'll hear the story of how Live Aid began, the legendary artists who were there, the legendary artists who surprisingly weren't and why, along with the great and not-so-great performances that have gone on to become part of rock history.
