April 2012 präsentiert das BA Kunstforum Wien die erste große Retrospektive von Herbert Brandl, die etwa 60 Werke seit den frühen 1980er Jahren umfasst, begleitet von neuen Gemälden, die extra für die Ausstellung geschaffen wurden. Im Interview spricht Brandl u.a. über seine Annäherung ans Großformat, sowie über Zen-Buddhismus, Autodidakten und universitäre Ausbildung und dem Idealfall für Kulturschaffende.
