Continuing our series of 'Talking Anti-Racism' lectures, our School of Biosciences hosted this talk from Professor Parveen Yaqoob (Professor of Nutritional Physiology, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), University of Reading; Chair of Athena Swan Governance Committee) In this talk, Professor Yaqoob will: - Share snapshots of her lived experience of racism, as a second-generation British Pakistani growing up in South London in the 70s and 80s, as a university student at Oxford, and during her career as an academic and university leader. - Explore whether universities in the UK are institutionally racist. - Explain why a Race Equality Review was needed at the University of Reading and what it aims to achieve. - Set out three key steps to making your organisation anti-racist.
