Can we be honest about depression in church?God is the source of our joy. However, If we're honest, there are times where we don't feel very joyful. Whether it is because of a recent life circumstance, or because of a more chronic mental health struggle, many of us will struggle with depression at some point. When that happens, we can't just say to ourselves or to others, "Be Happy!", or "Rejoice in the Lord!" Cheap and easy solutions just don't work. When we are depressed, how do we pray? How is God our deliverer and our hope, even when it doesn't feel that way? And how can we avoid cheap, easy solutions that don't adequately honor that life is very hard sometimes?
