Creating an Inclusive Library

Synopsis

Content Warning: Some listeners may be disturbed by an incident briefly referred to in this episode. Co-hosts Tobi Hines and Matt Ryan are back with another episode of My Kind of Mann! This month, we discuss the idea of creating an "inclusive library", and what inclusiveness and accessibility means to us - and even more importantly, what it might mean to our users. We are also joined by a couple of colleagues who talk about the work they're doing to help create a more welcoming library environment. Karina Hagelin (Outreach & Instruction Librarian) joins us to talk about their diversity fellowship and the work they have been doing at Mann, including programming in the mannUfactory Makerspace and their participation on the Library Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) Council. They share their thoughts on what makes an inclusive library, what Mann is doing well, and areas where we could be doing even more to make marginalized users feel more welcome and supported. Kevin Kidwell (User Experience Developer)
