TRUCKING BACK IN THE DAY. There was a time when trucking meant something to everyone at every trucking company. When a new employee was hired, they were required to go on a trip with a trucker. The plan was to make everyone appreciate what the trucker had to go through on a daily basis. If you never drove a big truck before, you were going to know how is felt to be a truck driver, before becoming an employee in the office. This helped most employees, new to trucking, understand what it was like to be away from home and living inside a tractor-trailer. It also help each individual to see what it was like to command a semi truck while traffic was aggressive and even in bad weather. You learned the frustrations and the let downs of the every day operations of transporting freight. You developed a repeat for the truck driver and therefore you worked better with all truckers if you were a new dispatcher, manager or even a secretary. either way this was required at many trucking companies and we are being told that
