18 YEAR OLD TRUCKERS & ELECTRIC SEMI'S. There is now proposed legislation that would allow 18 to 20 year old CDL holder cross state lines.There has been for a long time, 49 states that allow an 18 yearly man or woman, to get their CDL (Commercial drivers license) and driver intrastate only. But with the driver shortage and new safety rules that would apply to these young wanna-be drivers, it is making to sense to allow a new bread of drivers on Americas highways and interstates. The rules that will apply are as follows. It will start with a two-step program of additional training that includes performance benchmarks. They will need to complete at least 400 hours of on-duty time and 240 hours of driving time with an experienced driver in the cab. Thats right 640 hours of total training verses the average driver that is 21 and older, trains at an average of 160 hours of total trucking school classroom and on sight driving.
