You can't just take whatever you don't like and call it a metaphor for a metaphor. At least not if you want to have intellectual integrity in your religious beliefs. I think the reason progressives redefine words is because they want the appearance of Christianity but without it's meaning. The claim of being Christian without the burden of following the teachings of Christ.
