Synopsis

Adventureman Jamie McDonald holds the World Record for cycling on a stationary bike. He cycled for 268 hours, 32 minutes and 44 seconds. Jamie talks about his achievement on this week’s Best in the World with Richard Parr. Jamie tells Richard about spending the first nine years of his life in and out of hospital with a rare spinal condition known as syringomyelia. Before attempting the static cycling record, Jamie cycled 14,000 miles from Bangkok to his hometown Gloucester. Jamie explains the highs and lows of that journey including being shot at in Afghanistan. After Jamie broke the World record his endurance feats didn’t stop there. Jamie then become the first person in history to run the 5,000 miles from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast in Canada without the aid of a support crew. We hear about this on the podcast.
