Born in Ballarat, he was not considered to be a good runner in Primary School. He attempted to join little athletics but was told he was ‘not wanted.’ However by the time he reached High School (St Patrick’s College, Ballarat) he had developed into an excellent endurance athlete. John, Beau and Tony spoke to Steve about what's involved being the Chef de Mission of the Australian team.
